Jones wins a decision. Hagler would press and then get frustrated. Jones has the ability to make great fighters look slow and clumsy. He is faster, bigger and more gifted.

Hagler would be trying to hard and get caught, Jones wont knock him out, but will win by 3-4 rounds.

    How's things?

I honestly can't envisage what you've wrote above.

    What's your opinion based on?

Look at Roy's attributes and his size etc. In the era of same day weigh ins, Marvin often came in under 160 pounds. Whereas Roy would weigh in at 160, but would fight as a SMW-LHW. He had great reflexes, incredible hand speed, great skills, and he possessed one punch knockout power at the weight. I don't see any MW walking through him in a few rounds.

Tommy Hearns was a great fighter, but his fight with Marvin doesn't tell me that Marvin would have done the same to Roy. Tommy tried to fight Marvin, and I don't believe that Roy would have employed those tactics. Styles make fights. Marvin took out Tommy, and Tommy iced Duran. Yet Duran gave Marvin all he could handle and just fell short. Also, although you could say that Marvin was faded against Ray, Ray was also faded and smaller than Roy, yet clearly troubled Marvin with his hand speed and overall movement. So I think that Roy's speed would have caused Marvin some serious problems.

I think the version of Roy who fought Thomas Tate, would have been a handful for any MW in history.

So what if Marvin knocked out Hearns?

Jones would win by a near shutout and Marvin would accuse him of running after the fight.

Jones a little underrated in head to heads. I feel he would make it close but hagler in a 15 round fight round would eventually test jones chin. Hagler majority decision

I think Hagler would be lured into tactically boxing. I just can't see Hagler charging out round after round until someone gets stopped.

This wouldn't be a slam bang fight IMO...I think Jones Jr. would fight at distance, pick his shots and outpoint Hagler from a safe distance. He had the speed and size to fight Marvin this way.

actually, Tarver would have beat Roy the first time but his attack was too inconsistent. I think he learned from that fight and from the fight on became a better fighter. You could see it right away as he Walked thru Jones' shots and then with 100% confidence, drilled the nail in Jones' coffin

It can be done but like I said, few have the will AND the power to do it and that night, Tony convinced himself he would pull it off (ala Douglas-Tyson)

PS: the Hearns fight isnt the only bout Hagler needed/decided to score a sudden KO to win. You can add Mike Colbert, Finnegan, Scypion, Lee, Hamsho 2

I'm cool cheers, how are you?

I really can't believe that you think Jones has any advantages here power wise. He is merely 2 inches taller, but has a shorter reach, and is miles behind in strength, and stamina. Prime Hagler forces Jones to fight every second of every round, solely because he is so much the stronger, more powerful man at 160.

As one of Jones's biggest fans you should be only too well aware he had his first foray into the 168 division at 22, moved full time into the division at 24 and was gone to 175 less than 2 years after that. At 160 Hagler was an animal in much the same way Duran was at 135.

You really ought to take your Jones tinted glasses off now and again you know. Hagler toys with, and destroys Jones at 160.
