You're probably being inconsistent. I doubt you would defend the scorecards for Leonard-Hagler and Leonard-Hearns 2 quite so strongly. But that's just my suspicion, no big thing.

Hagler quite clearly disputed the closeness of the scorecards anyway.

I'm not sure why you get so silly resorting to personal insults ("idiots", "internet fools" etc.) and hyperbole when you could just say you agree with the judges.
Most people on here can compare contrasting scorecards without making it into some demented troll-like flaming event.
    But carry on. :good

By the way, here's a much better quote for you to chew on (from a NYT piece):

When he fought, he was indeed marvelous. But too often he took no chances, especially in an 11th-round aberration where he got up on his toes and danced away from a challenger who was by then fairly well beaten.

''I asked him how come he didn't go after Duran when he had him hurt, and he said he was worried about counterpunches,'' said Gil Clancy, the former manager and now a boxing commentator for CBS. ''But he proved Duran could not hurt him with anything so why was he playing chess?'' Close Fight on 3 Cards

Hagler still dominated the 15-round bout Thursday night, but was ahead by only 2 points, 1 point and 1 point on the three official cards of the judges, Guy Jutras of Canada, Ove Ovesen of Denmark and Yasuku Yoshida of Japan. He had to win the last two rounds on all cards to win the decision.

''Frankly, I don't know what they were looking at,'' said Goody Petronelli, Hagler's trainer and co-manager.

Hagler gave Duran only four rounds after watching a television replay Thursday night, scoring that seemed in the majority among the crowd of 14,600 in a Caesars Palace outdoor arena.

Glad someone finally cited an article from right after the fight.
I remember the consensus of the boxing mags. of the time was that it wasn't as close as the cards indicated.

I watched this bout live and felt it was a close affair up until the last couple of rounds. Hagler dominated over those last few rounds and this on my card gave him the win. Duran was one smart fighter and this bout demonstrates this like no other. Unfortunately he became exhausted down the stretch as Marvin kept pounding away. I believe I had the bout 7-6 Hagler after 13.

Duran at that time was my favorite fighter and I followed his career closely. At the time I lived in northwest NJ and would typically drive up to the Playboy club/hotel where there were a few Discos (at the time post Disco era were called "clubs"). A month or so before this fight I walked into one rather deserted club in that hotel and to my surprise there was Duran standing around with several of his team sipping a drink. I walked over to shake his hand and got his autograph. He was very personable with me...smiling and slapping me on the back as I told him to be sure to beat Hagler.

Duran in his prime could fight 15 very fast rounds and never fall apart in the championship rounds. If he had that level of conditioning for this bout we could have had a new middleweight champion that night. How much highly would Duran be rated today if he would have surged along with Hagler and did enough to win this bout?

Yet again you wriggle and squirm like the cretin you are duck minge.

You are the one that has a problem with drinking, hence YOU mentioning it in the first place fool. I love it.

As I've told you before if it came to a choice of saving your miserable life or having a drink, the drink would win every time. No one would need booze to justify insulting something like you duck minge, you attract it, due to your self proclaimed racism if nothing else.

Hagler also claimed he won the Leonard fight, took his ball home and gave up boxing, you moronic fool.:rofl:rofl:rofl

You then quote Gil Clancy who says even Hagler ADMITTED he was worried about being countered when he hurt Duran, so backed off from him. So now you've got Clancy, and 3 judges, seeing it as a close fight, plus Pat Petronelli saying " Duran took us to school ", and in spite of that you are claiming it was an easy, wide win for Hagler

Priceless. Keep licking the windows, until the sunshine bus turns up for you and the other idiots, trying to rewrite reality.:nut:nut

Hagler DEFINITELY won 14, and 15, so even if someone disagreed with you on the 7 - 6 Hagler, and went with 2 of the judges who had it the other way ( with one of them having it even ) 9 - 6 Hagler is not out of the way.

Fools who claim it was 10 - 5, or 11 - 4, are simply that, fools. Or they haven't a clue about what they are watching.:good

Were you always this delusional or has your passion for Duran & his career driven you to this? You (either dishonestly or deludedly) claimed above that the Petronelli's endorsed the judges' scoring. I explained to you that you were fantasizing. The quote that I provided proves it. Other than the three judges and Duran's friends, family, and fanboys, very few people think that Duran won more than 5 or 6 rounds in that fight.

Well here is the Boxing News report.

Roberto Duran enhances reputation while losing to Marvin Hagler on November 10, 1983, writes Matt Christie

    1. THERE was high demand to witness the November 10 1983 world middleweight title showdown between champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler and reigning WBA 154lb king, Roberto Duran. British fans paid £15 or £20 to watch a live broadcast on cinema screens, as Frank ****** in association with Savile Artists presented showings in Leicester Square, Bloomsbury, and Gants Hill.

    2. OVER in Las Vegas, 20,000 fans crammed into Caesars Palace to see if Duran, 32, could upset the odds and defeat the increasingly formidable Hagler in what would be the richest fight in middleweight history to that point. Hagler, three years Duran’s junior, enjoyed a two-and-a-half inch height advantage, and outreached the Panamanian by eight-and-a-half inches.

    3. PROMOTER Bob Arum, who announced both fighters could make $10million from the bout if it sold well on all avenues, would not have been surprised to see the upset. “Hagler has never fought a guy who moves like Duran moves,” said Arum. “Duran is now very serious and when he’s got his head on straight I think he’s the greatest fighter in the world. I wouldn’t be surprised if he beat Hagler.”

    4. BUT Hagler, who was three years into a reign he had long craved, was not about to give up his title easily. “There’s a monster that comes out of me in the ring. I think it goes back to the days when I had nothing. They’re all trying to take something from me that I’ve worked long and hard for, and I like the feeling of being champ.”

    5. HAGLER almost lost that feeling. After 13 rounds of the scheduled 15 Duran – cheered on by 2,000 flag bearing Panamanians – was ahead on all three judges’ scorecards. But the American turned it on over the final six minutes, hurting Roberto in the last, to emerge the deserved winner via too-close scores of 144-142, 146-145, and 144-143.

    6. AT the final bell, Duran sneered and snorted, and afterwards typically offered no encouragement for the man who had just defeated him. “[Ray] Leonard is a much better fighter and boxer,” he remarked at the press conference – then staged on the morning after the fight. “I want Hagler again. I think I deserve a rematch.”

    7. HAGLER concluded the contest with blood pouring down his face. Told that he was blaming the cut on a butt, Duran laughed heartily. “That’s a good one,” he said. “We lost and we aren’t making any excuses. That’s funny.”

    8. THE Duran camp could have made excuses, though. His right hand was injured and swollen from the fifth round. It was officially diagnosed as an “aggravated former trauma of the distel aspect of the hand.”

    9. GOODY PETRONELLI, one of the Brockton brothers who guided Hagler, said: “If Marvin had put more pressure on in the first 10 rounds it wouldn’t have gone 15.”

    10. BUT Hagler, growing tired of the criticisms he was facing despite winning, declared: “If I’d had one more round I could have knocked him out, but all I wanted to do was win, and I did.”

Wanna go for Boxing Monthly? Ring Magazine perhaps?

Or would you prefer scabby Murican newspapers?:roll:

Personally I don't have a problem with Leonard / Hagler, other than judges giving points for flashy arm punches for some fighters, but not for others.

Leonards / Hearns 2 is a completely different kettle of fish to Hagler / Duran.

Hagler was RIGHTLY given the win, it is moronic Hagler fanboys, or Duran haters that like to read their own cr ap, by denying the closeness of the fight, against all logic, and general consensus. ( Murican newspapers do not count ) that are rightly abused.

Hearns on the other hand was WRONGLY denied the win he thoroughly deserved. The judges scored the fight a draw, with both boxers retaining their respective titles. Judge Jerry Roth scored the fight 113-112 for Hearns, Judge Tom Kazmarek scored it 113-112 for Leonard, and Judge Dalby Shirley scored it 112-112. Shirley was the only judge to give Leonard a 10-8 margin in the twelfth. If he had scored it 10-9, as his two colleagues did, Hearns would have won by a split decision. The decision was soundly booed, as most felt that Hearns had won.Eventually, Leonard admitted that Hearns deserved the decision.

It shouldn't be that difficult to understand.
