This fight had it all, A true MEGA FIGHT, between 2 atg at their peeks, and fought at a skill level that these other fights mentions only could dream about. This was THE FIGHT when boxing meant something. I think the magnitude and hype of the fight makes it the best ever. Could you imagine if Tommy had any type of jaw?

Probably. If only Tommy had calmed down a bit and boxed more.

No, it wouldn't even make my top 20.

Although to be fair, people often say you have to have seen it live to fully appreciate it.

As it is though, I've seen numerous other fights on tape, knowing the result, that I rank easily above Hagler-Hearns.

Not that Hagler-Hearns wasn't great in its own right, but there's been a LOT of great fights in history. Many of which were longer, closer, with more than just one amazing round.

Just because a fighter is a bigger event with greater fighters, doesn't mean it's a better fight.

I'll credit Hagler for that. He was all over Hearns. Hearns tried to box at range midway through round 1, and was having some success, but Hagler cut him off and got him on the ropes. By the time the round ended, Hearns's legs were shaky.

Terrific game plan and show of versatility (he fought so different from his usual style) by Hagler.

:good Two of the top five, at the very least. Both have a great case of being the best fight ever.

Put Morales vs. Barrera up there too.

Hagler/Hearns is a good fight but it didn't win fight of the decade for the 1980's. If you want to watch the best fight of the 1980's go check out Aaron Pryor vs Alexis Arguello which was named by The Ring fight of the decade and well deserved in my opinion.

    It was?

Kind of weird, as The Ring didn't give it Fight of the Year. Not that I have a problem with that as Chacon-Limon 4 was a great fight.

Chacon-Limon 4 and Chacon-Edwards 2 are pretty close, I have a tough time really picking one over the other.

Agreed. You could probably say that about any Chacon-Limon fight.

**** you could say it about any Chacon fight in general

Tommy and Marvin fought round one as though they thought they would get a knockout in round one- both of them.

Best short fight ever without doubt but I prefer longer fights.

    Try out......

    Morales v Barrera 1
    Chacon v Boza-Edwards 2
    Chacon v Limon 4
    Duran v Leonard 1
    Ali v Frazier 3
    Barrera v Mckinney
    Morales v Pacquiao 1
    Arguello v Pryor 1 & 2
    Chavez v Taylor 1
    Morales v McCullough
    Trinidad v Vargas
    Ali v Frazier 1
    Pacquiao v Marquez 1 & 2
    Corrales v Castillo 1
    Eubank v Benn 1
    Benn v McClellan

You wont be disappointed with any of those :good

Chacon vs Boza-Edwards 2 & Chacon vs Limon 4 were both a little better IMO as was Leonard vs Duran 1 but you wont go wrong with either one of the Arguello vs Pryor fights, the first one makes my top 10 & the second one makes my top 15.

I think Chacon v Boza was just a tad better than the Limon fight because it was squeezed into 12 rds where as the Limon fight went 15 & there was more stalling (tho hardly any stalling tbh, it was a pure war, its just that the Boza fight was more constant in the exchanges)
