Hagler Hearns rematch

Its a shame.

It would be very interesting to see Hearns fight Hagler without a broken hand.

If Hearns could get that jab going and keep some distance.

Could be a very different fight.

Ultimately, prolly not though.

 

It would have been a very different fight. I would have liked to have seen Hearns punch land on Hagler again. He hurt him early in the first fight, so I think he would have hurt him in the rematch. The style favors Hagler, but I think Hearns could have stopped Hagler on TKO.. I don't think Hagler wanted Hearns again. Hearns was a guy he put his all into and fighting that style. I think he put his all in and didn't want to try Hearns again. He got rocked and cut in a fight which he won and put him on the greatness map. Why do it again?

 

I would give Minter a better chance than Hearns of bearing Hagler.

 

I might actually say hearns would have the edge in the rematch, hagler became slower on his feet and easier to hit over time, while hearns went on to knock out cruiserweights, if there was any middleweight capable of hurting hagler it would be hearns, but it would be a bloody war.

 

I think Hearns getting the range and picking his shots more and getting the range when Marvin is righty would be the key.
It seems like Marvin was already swollen in the face after round one. A few rounds of Hearns jab and I think Marvin would be swelled up. Hearns picking his punches and a slower pace helps Hearns in this one, no matter what.

 

The first fight was such a definitive early KO that there was really no demand for a rematch.

 

Hagler would have KOd Hearns broken hand or not. Hagler's chin was just too good. Hearns may have broken his hand landing that huge right hand in the first round, but it was not broken before that punch landed. And Hagler took it, easily.

 

It was a different fight than most. I don't think how long it lasted had to do with rematch. The way they fought, if you put any two guys in there fighting at that pace in round one it is going to end early. Hearns always had a chance to beat Hagler. And he hurt him early, so if he had not broken his hand there is absolutely a chance he could knock out Hagler. He hurt him within seconds of the first bell.

 

I dunno...Was Hagler really hurt, or just buzzed?
I realize much of this is opinion & semantics...But if he was really hurt, he would have been slowed down for a while, right?

 

The interesting thing about Hagler vs. Hearns is how tired Hagler was at the end of 2 rounds. Look at him at the beginning of round 3. Had Hearns had anything left he could have really hurt Hagler. He was being hit by most of Hearns punches and very tired. What gave him the push to go for the knockout was Steele calling time out.

 

Hearns loyalists on here displaying a bit of wishful thinking.

 

I don't think so. If you watch the fight Marvin was extremely tired. Had Hearns had the energy at that point, I think Marvin is in trouble. He was missing most of his punches in round 3 except one main right which got Hearns in trouble. Hearns fought a stupid fight.
