I'm sure this one has been done before, but how do you imagine this one going, round by round? Say, a 15 round fight?
about 100 times before In a 12 rounder I would pick Hopkins, in 15 rounds it would be very close probably. Don't know how Hopkins stamina and endurance would do at such distance
Hopkins of 2001, Hagler of the early 80s, I see Hopkins building up a slight points lead over the first 12 rounds or so, then Hagler coming on strong in the championship rounds and B-Hop having to survive some furious onslaughts, but I think he could hold on for a very narrow and probably hotly-contested points decision. I see Hopkins's size and defence as giving him a slight edge when both men are fresh, I see him holding a lot when Hagler bulls up close to him, and this would really frustrate Marvin and make him leave himself open to get picked off by sharp counters, purely because he would be angry at B-Hop's smothering tactics and want to take his head off. Of course, a lot of this depends on whether B-Hop could utilize his own jab effectively against Hagler and whether the referee would allow him to hit-and-hold. I wouldn't argue with anyone who felt Hagler would win, I think this would be a really close and horribly hard-fought clash, but I do think Hopkins would sneak it.
Hopkins is great but Hagler is a master. I think Bernard would trouble him initially with his longer reach and speed, but Hagler would adapt accordingly, slipping, then working the body. Marvin's tenacity gradually wears X down, as he prevails by 12th round stoppage.
Hopkins is flavour of the month due to his win over Pavlik ,but imo ,his middleweight resume is pretty thin I like Marvin by dec.
Hopkins by very close decision. In a match-up of fighters as complete as these two were at their best, I lean towards the guy who I think was better at controlling the tone of the fight, and for me that's Hopkins. Wouldn't really argue with someone who disagreed. Very evenly matched IMO.
In a fight made rather boring because of Hopkins's style, I pick Hopkins on points. The shorter Hagler just wouldn't be able to get in and force Hopkins to mix it up. Of the two, I liked watching Hagler more but in this match-up, Hopkins comes away with a decision.
Hagler took such a great punch that he would take chances where a guy like Tito could not. I think Marvin wins a decision.
I used to be in the minority with my Hopkins pick. Now, it looks as though I'm in the majority. I don't feel any more certain.
This is a age old question ... I say if Points decides , then Hopkins survived , and if he survives then he gets the nod. Hagler's workrate was always terrifying ,his footwork and balance were awesome , so he WILL get inside on occasion, and will frustrate Bhop by the head rubbin technique , it will end up a raw gutsy affair , kinda like Hagler /Mugabe , i say Hagler to overwhelm Bhop with strength and fierocous determination and get a late stoppage
