Doesnt this just prove how close the fight was? And that charges of robbery ,whoever you though won it ,are unfounded.I thought Leonard just nicked it,but it was very very tight.

    Agreed.

A close fight (no matter how important, you listening marvin) should never be called a robbery.

Calling this fight a robbery is a disgrace to real robberies like... no I wont even go there, I`ll stick with this debate.

As it goes, I thought srl won about 7-5 & I also had him winning more clear rds, so thats it.

Cant believe Ive settled this debate after all these yrs.
There you have it guys, leonard won, cant believe Ive just settled a 20 yr argument.

Round of applause for the butcher.

    :happy

I worked in a newsroom for 7 years - this is about how a discussion like that would go :hey

AP Guys: "So how did you guys score it?"

    KO Guys: "118-111 Leonard"

    AP Guys: "You GD nuthuggers"

    KO Guys "Yo MAMA"

AP Guys: "What about my Mama?"

KO Guys: "She would have kicked Haglers ass tonight too!"

AP Guys: "Maybe she would but Leonard didn't"

KO Guys: "Did on my card"

AP Guys: "That nuthuggin card will NEVER get on the AP Wire and the world will never see it, so it doesn't matter WTF YOU think!"

Although there are exceptions, in my humble experience, this is the general level of erudite gentlemanly discussion in the sportswriters area :hat

Hagler let Leonard put too many early rds in the bank. I had Leonard juuust ahead. Also Hagler looked surprisingly small in the fight- was that down to Leonard stipulating fighting weight?

God would someone ban this cocksucking dip **** already. He does nothing but antagonize good authors who just want to enjoy discussing boxing without some *******, crapping up every thread.

From what I understand, when its referred that AP scored the fight....I understand that AP actually sends a reporter to a big fight like that and the score that is quoted coming from AP is the actual score of just one person, their main correspondent for that fight.

I could be wrong, but when its said Ring Magazine had it so and so for a certain fighter, its from the viewpoint of one of their writers and not from a core collection of writers from that magazine.

ESPN ranks the top 50 fighters of all-time....its not really coming from various boxing writers from ESPN, its coming from the author who writes the article "Boxing's 50 greatest fighters of all-time."

Anybody know for sure that I'm wrong???

You're likely right, though its hard to imagine only one member from the AP or KO or Ring being in attendance at massive fights like Hagler-Leonard.

Oh, I am sure that a big fight like that gets covered by more than one writer from a Magazine like The Ring, but there is one particular journalist thats in charge of covering the core of the fight, the main article if you may. I would guess the score quoted by others comes from that article.

With a result this controversial, you can't really say that victory belonged to leonard. So his legacy at best reveals he holds wins over Duran, Benitez, a win and a draw with Hearns, a lopsided loss to Norris and a Ko loss to Camacho. Not good, not bad. I guess I'll have to sort it out.

He won the fight. Just because its controversial you don't even recognise he won?.

I thought De La Hoya beat Trinidad, but don't have a problem dealing with the facts of the matter, he lost.

True. Boxing News' main report had Hagler winning, a week later their North American correspondent, Graham Houston took time to write that Harry Maullan's opinion wasn't agree with by some of the staff. He himself had Leonard ahead by 115-113.
