Who would you give the very close rounds to?, Would you score them a draw or try to give each boxer one each etc..or give them to the boxer you think just "won" the round even thou they might rack up a few (should only be a couple per bout)of these rounds.
If you think one fighter had edge the round, he wins it. Nothing could be more simple. You should try to forget who holds the title when the opeong bell rings.
i know i would never be a judge. I think you have misunderstood me a tiny bit. In a close round but i feel the challenger edges it i give it to the challenger but if i dont think anyone has edged it i give it to the champion
If anything should be expecting more from the champion really when you think about dodgy "champ gets benefit" logic.
it dosent really make much difference when i am scoring a fight as i rarely ever see a really even roun when i apply this logic. but the champion has already proved themselves surely th challenger should have to prove their selfs like the champion did to start with
I watched the fight yesterday for the first time in ages. God knows how anyone can have a definitive winner. It's the hardest fight to score I think I have ever seen. I can't even take a strong opinion on this one, I can't argue with anyone who scores it to either man, unless someone has a ridiculous 118-110 scorecard like that clown of a judge. But no-one on here does, eh?? Personally, I think Hagler does the cleaner, more effective, more significant work, but the reason I can't simply award him the decision is that I'm not sure he does enough of it over the piece.
Leonard did not win the first four rounds. round one was even. neither man did anything of note. Even round round two to leonard round three. again, an even round round four to leoanrd but Ray should have had a point taken for the flagrant groin shot that was intentional so round four to Hagler (if you can take points from Norris I dont see why you can't take points from leonard) round five to Hagler six to leonard round seven: i was going to call this even until Leonard threw several shots late after the bell sounded-round to Hagler round 8-Hagler round nine-even rounds 10,11-Hagler round 12 Leonard several rounds were close but i dont see why ray could not just go out and clearly win them. aftewr all, he had a shot fighter in front of him. I know how his fans desperately want to claim a clear cut win for their man but the fact is he didnt.
To play devils advocate, Hagler hadn't exactly been fair to the middleweights either with his 2 year run of Mugabi, Hearns and Leonard....;o)
Maybe so or not, who at that time should have MH faced. In all honesty it's been a long time, so memory isn't there. Mugabi and Hearns I guess were percieved at the best challengers at the time. Was a Mccallum or someone else more deserving that JM or Hearns, at that time. Obviously money factors in. MH fought all #1's to my recollection. RL didn't, he fought lalonde thereafter, then money with Hearns and Duran which is fine. Understandably It for the most part is all about that.
