Yep, I agree. this topic has been beaten to death ad nasuem so many times. The one main agreement shared by all is the one ******ed judge, that had it 118-110 for RL.
Very close fight, one of the closest Title fights of all time, and after all these years, can't remember how I scored it. Ultimately, I was OK with the decision as I would have been if Hagler won it close or even a draw. The huge problem with it is JoJo Guerra 118-110 for Leonard. NO WAY !!! Who knows, maybe the Classic people's fighter factor....
Hagler just frapped up, and tried to initially out-box a conventional great boxer, from a conventional stance, got down big early in a 12 round fight, in a 50' x 50' ring. All SRL needed was to win 7 rounds and hang-on late to win the fight.
There's a common misconception that Hagler lost the first 4 rounds clearly, and that simply isn't true.
I just re-watched this again this morning: Hagler: 3,5,7,8,9,10,12 Leonard: 1,2,4,6,11 115-113 for Hagler Same result as when when I scored it many years ago.
I've watched this fight many times and scored it and the usual conclusion I come to is a draw. If I had to give one or the other the edge I'd give it to Leonard, he fought an excellent fight.
after 6 Hagler really had to win the rest on your card. Hagler coming out right handed really hurt Marvin.
I had a go, Round 1 Leonard Round 2 Even (Hagler edged it for most of it just with better workrate, but I think Leonard ended the round strong enough to draw it even) Round 3 Leonard (Again Hagler edging it early, but Leonard taking over in the second half) Round 4 Leonard (Fairly back and forth, but Leonard on top overall) Round 5 Even (Good end by Hagler, but not enough to win the round, both done some of their best so far IMO) Round 6 Leonard (Even early, Hagler looking pretty weary and ineffective in the later part, enough to drop the round) Round 7 Hagler (A few flashes, but overall pretty dominant by Hagler) Round 8 Hagler (Pretty solidly outworking Leonard overall, despite a few good flashes) Round 9 Hagler (Great round, Leonard coming back into it, but I think Hagler still did enough) Round 10 Even (hard to score, Leonard started good, and with good flashes, but much more hittable than early, and Hagler just keeps working) Round 11 Hagler (Style from Leonard, but more substance from Hagler) Round 12 Hagler (Leonard looked in control, but I think he got outworked) 4 to Leonard 3 Even 5 to Hagler A lot of close rounds so I could have scored a fair number differently
