Round 2 was close too. People impressed by Leonard's movement often forget/overlook that he was spending a lot of the rounds just keeping his distance, being on his bike (out of range himself); not really controlling the distance or even bossing the pace of the bout. Hagler soon began to close the gap and Leonard was already initiating clinches to deal with this; often throwing himself into them and holding on. Hagler's shots to the body in these clinches were completely legitimate, scoring punches and completely ignored, it would seem, by at least a couple of the judges. Hagler had seriously slowed up. It took him a while to get his timing together. But, Leonard was missing plenty of shots himself and, when he did make contact, was often doing so on gloves, forearms and elbows. I guess he just looked better at throwing non-scoring punches than Hagler did.
