I remember watching this fight live when I was kid . . . first time I went to a boxing match on close circuit TV! I was a HUGE SRL fan (i kinda liked MMH a bit). at the end of that fight I remember thinking that I thought SRL lost but I hoped that the judges gave it to him. for years I argued with my dad saying that SRL won but I knew in my heart that MMH won. I have watched the fight several times since and have always scored it for MMH.

116-112 / 115 - 113 Leonard if i remember correctly from watching the fight then rewatching it.

A good friend of mine and I have always argued over this as he thinks Hagler won, and looking at how we both fight ( Me being purely a boxer who relies on speed and defence, him being an MMA fighter who likes Brawling ) it all depends on how you score a fight and what style attracts your eye.

Its why I dont usually call a fight that is within a 1-2 point of a draw a robbery because it all depends on how you score a fight

One thing that bothers me is that its obviously a pretty close fight, ray waited many years for hagler to slow down before giving it a shot, he edges out a controversial decision with that ridiculous 118-110 scorecard, also the bull**** like the huge ring for him to run around in, yet everyone gives him huge credit for the win and it adds greatly to his legacy, while it gives me the feeling that hagler got ****ed over bad, the whole thing feels kind of unfair to hagler.

I believe he does and also that he's never gotten over to losing to SRL.

hagler landed the cleaner punches - hagler won in my mind.

but close enough to make an argument for either fighter.

This is the most bull**** controversy in the history of boxing. If you wanted to score the fight creatively for Hagler, okay; but Bernard Hopkins has a much better robbery argument in Taylor I (and he really doesn't have a case, either).

You can't give away the first four rounds in a 12-round fight and think you're going to win a decision. I very much prefer Hagler to Leonard, but that extremely declined version of Marvin put himself into a hole he couldn't crawl out of.

Defense is part of scoring, and Leonard owned Hagler on multiple occasions. I didn't enjoy his tactics, either, but Marvin needed to take seven of the final eight rounds in order to win a decision. Think about that for a second. With the close rounds, you guys truly believe Hagler won 7 out of 8?

It's ridiculous that anyone calls this a robbery. Prime Hagler smashes any version of Leonard at 160, but this wasn't anything close to a prime Hagler.

I watched it last night and though i believe Marvin should have won it its not hard to imagine why they gave it to Leonard. Hagler didn`t seem to have the timing. Ringside commentary clearly calls for the straight left that he throws maybe a couple of times in the whole fight. Hagler lost the fight imo at the negotiations when he was ok with a huge ring, lighter gloves and 12 rounds. His lost ability to pour on the pressure was also a flaw that Leonard took advantage of
