I had it for Leonard. I could never understand how Hagler supposedly won this fight. Yeah, the flashy combo's were the difference, but it wasn't like Hagler was winning despite them.
Allelujah! Preach it brother. My scorecard and sentiments are very close to yours. How anyone can give Hagler a piece of the first four rounds is beyond me. If he went after Ray from the beginning and didn't **** away those first four he would have gotten at least a draw.... He has only himself to blame.
3 rds to Leonard 1 draw and 8 to haggler, those flashy speedy combos were pitty pats compared to when Haggler was throwing when Haggler wasn't gassed out. Those uppercuts, straights and 1-2 were clean from Haggler when on the inside and as for that 118-110 scorecard for Leonard..I can see if that was for Haggler but definately not for Leonard. I gave the 12th round to Haggler because Leonard was running away through a minute of the fight taking the fight or flight response, in this case the flight response, there's a differnce between outside fighting what Hearns does to use those nice long combos with his arms and dancing around the ring to *hit and run* like Leonard.
I watched that fight numerous times and Hagler won that fight, no question whatsoever! Also SRL should have had at least one point deducted for some huge low blows, but instead the crowd cheered when he hit Hagler with another really low blow.
8 rounds hagler? i don't know man. leonard won at least the first 4 clearly. which one of the first four did you give hagler or consider a draw?
Hagler didnt start fighting until the second half of the fight , and by that point was playing catch up , but i dont like how Leonard ever treated Hagler , at times he was just plain mean.
I disagree with the first four rounds (except the first ), when you do a championship fight like that, Leonard was absolutely clinching, it wasn't like a 1-2 then clinch like John Ruiz. Leonard was literally rushing to wrap his arms around him, I wish Barrera was around so Haggler could have taken a page out of him and twist his body to drop Leonard onto the ground like he did Prince Naseem Hamed, it was the reason why both Leonard and Haggler were very exhausted and it became a miserable fight for both of them in the later rounds. As I've said before, there's a difference between fighting long distance and running away, it's like saying if you hit a man with the jab and ran throughout the fight without him able to catch up while the other guy was chasing, and when the guy banged your guard and he wound up clinching you and won by the jab, you could give the guy working dilligently the round just for aggression because the other man didn't want to fight, sounds thoughtless but copybox can only prove numbers compared to heart and determination does when someone plays the fight or flight response game in the ring. Dancing is good when your Ali knowing you're going to box on the outside, but when your Leonard, he was moving around for a minute and a half to kill the clock to avoid any means of boxing contact, I'm not saying the man has to get hit but you can be the smaller man and fight on the outside, look at Haye vs Valuev or some of Willie Pep's fights where he kept a good distance and lunged in to get em. It's speculation though, you feel Leonard clearly won the first 4, I felt the 3 of the 4 rounds went to Haggler because Leonard wouldn't stop clinching, I'm starting to want to come up with something where everytime a man clinches, 1 punch shall be deducted from my favortism...lol that's silly but when a man clinches 20-30 times a round...that's 20-30 punches I deduct but since the real world doesn't work like that..I consider it dirty tactics and use that against him because those are illegal moves just like you don't score a punch when hit below the belt as a body shot or the back of the head as a head shot when it smacks good. Clinching when not in serious trouble is a pet peeve and should be judged harshly when done excessively. 11th round I gave a draw because Haggler was whipping his ass in the beginning of the round then Leonard started those little pitty pat flurries again, I don't neglect what was going on in the early stages of the round and if Leonard did a little more he would have gotten it but Haggler throws one good solid punch at a time and keeps consistant.
116-112 Hagler (again) Embarrassing fight to contend. People make it REALLY ****ing obvious that they DO NOT score body punches, and listen to every word commentators tell them when discussions of this fight come up.
It was a bloody close fight! I felt Hagler won and every time I have scored this fight it has been close for Hagler....... ......But...... I will admit I tend to score round where I can't divide to the agressor and I know this is not always correct. This is one of those fights that depends how you saw it! However I will say the judge that had it by 8 to sugar was shooting up much more surely than pac!
