this has been done to death , there is no clear winner though in most threads Monzon gets the nod. it's so hard to compare each other accomplishments vs the comp they faced. And the off unexpected tough fight.

Call it a 3 way draw. I think either could beat the other on any given night.

Accomplishments, Monzon over Hopkins at middleweight. Fought much better comp. If you take into account Hopkins above 160, probably.

    July, 2007.

“Sugar Ray Robinson at 147 pounds was close to perfect,” Hopkins posits. “But at middleweight, he was beatable. I would have fought Ray Robinson in close and not given him room to do his thing. He’d make me pay a physical price. But at middleweight, I think I’d wear him down and win. Me and Marvin Hagler would have been a war. We’d both be in the hospital afterward with straws in our mouth. We’d destroy each other. I wouldn’t run from Marvin. My game-plan would be, rough him up, box, rough him up, box. You wouldn’t use judges for that fight. You’d go by the doctors’ reports. Whichever one of us is damaged less gets the win. Carlos Monzon? I could lose that fight. Monzon was tall, rangy, did everything right. I see myself losing that fight more than winning it. I ain’t saying I’m number one, but I’m one of the best middleweights of all time. My legacy is what it is. If you want to be great, then beat Bernard Hopkins.”

    just compare the skills:

    Heart: Hagler
    Punch: Monzon
    technique: hagler
    ring intelligence: hopkins
    aggresiveness: hagler

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of hagler. :p

Is that right? What he say abotu that?

Monzon is my pick, also. I think Hopkins would beat Hagler. I think Monzon would beat Hagler also. So i guess that makes it

    Monzon
    Hopkins
    Hagler

    Hopkins, Monzon, Hagler

I would give Toney the nod over Hagler and RJJ beats them all. There haven't been as many truly great MW's as one would expect... Once you get out of this group you're immediately into Flowers, Dick Tiger and a pack of old-timers.

Im talking career. Accomplishments, tho related to resume, are really two different things. More defenses, more success at higher weights...etc.

Add in other things like longevity and you have even more of an arguement.

    Never saw that quote...thanks bro.

Love the way Hopkins even has gameplans for fighters who fought decades before him. His ring intellect always impresses me.

I agree that Monzon would be his toughest test in ring...but I just see his ring intellect, his ring generalship and his better overall conditioning (we have all heard of Carlos' exploits outside of the ring) would play the difference.
