Hagler rips through hearns but not before been rocked and cut by the hit man, Benn sends barkley to the canvas three times but is rocked him self all in one round!! Does Hagler destroy Benn or could this hard punching wild brit pull off the upset of the middle weight s. Yes Benn chin was nothing compared to marvin s but if Tommy could shake him and cut him could Nigel do more?
Benn was stopped by Michael Watson at 160. After Tommy landed that heavy blow that Hagler shook off, Marvin was all over Tommy and gave him absolutely no space to breath whatsoever. If Barkley could stun Benn in the 1st round, I see even the slightly past his best Hagler of the Hearns fight stopping Benn early, maybe within 5. People seem to forget that an even further past it Hagler took all of Mugabi's heavy blows and managed a stoppage win as well.
Good answer but while I'm certainly not picking Benn over Hagler, I think Nigel at that point was wild and dangerous. Yes it was barkley he knocked out and a half blind one at that but still Benn was a ferocious puncher in that stage, if he came out at marvin like that and caught him he could maybe shake him up. But of course Hagler was a more skillful beast and would have caught the wide open chin at some point. But would have been exciting as heck while it lasts
Good point. But Hags dealt with big punchers like Hart, Mugabi, Hearns, Roldan, Obelmejias, Sibson and Briscoe. Big, hittable punchers, especially those with not so great chins, weren't his problem. Hags in 4.
Benn could definitely hurt him, putting him away is a completely different matter. Hagler could definitely put Benn away though but the fight would be very interesting indeed.
I think Benn is more dangerous than Mugabi, and Hagler would choose to box...it would be an exciting albeit one sided beating until Hagler stops him in 10 rounds.
i do not think Benn puts up a better fight than Mugabi who fought the fight of his life in there. A very intellgent fight by Mugabi.Benn with bis style plays right into Hagler's style.Hagler dismantles Benn.
I love Benn one of my favourite all time fighters, but I don't think he's putting a dent in Hagler. Hagler's chin was unreal, you really do have to struggle to find just a second or so in his fights over his whole career to see him wobbled. I think this would be a beat down more in the way Hagler beat Sibson.
I agree. I think Benn is more dangerous than Mugabi as well. But, the TS is talking about the slightly past it Hagler that fought Hearns, not the farther gone, quite hittable version that fought the Beast. Either version of Hagler though has an undeniably granite chin, something Benn doesn't have.
