Good points, but Hags was probably absolute prime when he fought Sibbo. That was probably his best performance.
Benn was dangerous but in a wild way, u never new how he was going to react when hurt. That s when he let the winging right hand s go flying. Hagler would I think have been surprised how hard Benn hit. But of course Hagler chin was made of concrete!
Benn is Tailor made for Hagler, If Hagler decides to box, Benn may make it to 8. If Hagler decides to go to WAR, Benn doesn't get past 4rds.
Hagler would be a little shocked at Benns power and ferocity in the early rnds and may lose the first few rnd as benn attacks but Hagler wouldn't panic take control of the.fight and stop benn in about six in a great fight.
If Hagler could absorb fierce bombs from Hearns, Hart , Sibson, Mugabi , Roldan then Benn also wouldn't be able to dent Hagler's chin. If Eubank could stop Benn in 9 rds four months after ko Barkley in round one then there is no reason a slightly past the prime Hagler wouldn't do the same. Hagler in a rugged brawl wears down and ko Benn in 7 rounds.
Hagler had the better chin, and was a very good brawler or pressure fighter when he chose to fight in those styles. He would win quicker against Benn fighting that way, but might absorb some bombs along the way. If Hagler fought in his more usual style, then he would outbox Benn and break him down methodically and stop him in the mid rounds.
Benn was the style which Hagler would beat. He seemed to like the bigger puncher who could be hit. Since he had a great chin, he took it and it made him mad and he came forward. The guys who gave Hagler trouble are the movers, which is why Hearns fighting him that way was not the smart move. I think those guys didn't like each other and that is why that round was the way it was. Hearns should have boxed. Or at least settled down and cut up Hagler after a few rounds and maybe knocked him out. Hearns threw punches too early and broke his hand. A slower Hagler would be hit by a Hearns with better range with his jab and right and I think he could have stopped Hagler on cuts.
Benn makes it tougher on him than Hearns could, but Hagler will stop him in 4 rounds and every round is a war. You could say that this fight is like the Mugabi fight just shorter and more dense. Dense in how much battling back and forth there is.
I don't think that Hearns could cut him up with his punches though, Hagler was rarely a bleeder. I think Hagler sustained the cut towards the end of the first round when they exchanging on the ropes, with Hagler pressuring and Hearns countering. I believe that Hagler unintentionally ran his face into Hearns' mouth guard which made him cut open.
Hagler was swelling on the right side of his face and eye after Round one of the Hearns fight. and two cuts after the fight. He would have swelled up. In the rematch I think Hearns had a very good chance. Slow the fight down use the jab and pin point him and stop him on cuts in about 8,, Don't go for the knockout.
