Pointless, when did Hagler ever face a boxer 6'2 who could keep you at bay with jab and not wear out for 15 rounds. Southpaw wouldn't trouble Monzon as he had a wicked straight right hand that would be catching haggler all night; just look at the way Duran was able to land that right hand consistently.

Whether a guy has faced a southpaw or not when talking match ups is never pointless. It's not the be all and end all but it certainly adds a teeny element of unknown into the equation. Conversely if a guy has previously belted a good southpaw or two we know he's good to go on that front.

Some of your points have been good but you are very passionate in writing Hagler's chances off, pretty much completely.

I do actually agree Monzon's range and straight punching holds him in decent stead. I think a few other things would be going on as well tho and wouldn't be writing Hagler off quite so easily.

Yes. And Briscoe landed some other good shots too. Maybe we disagree on what "putting a dent in someone" means.

Based on the footage that ive seen(second fight), Monzon was boxing briscoes ears off for pretty much every round. outside of the 9th where bennie stunned him, I had Monzon winning pretty easily. Of course, that doesn't mean that Briscoe didn't land any shots, but he was losing pretty much most of the rounds. To me, it would have to be suffocating pressure like what bennie did to possibly catch Monzon, but even there he had the heart and endurance to recover and fight smart. I just cant see Hagler transitioning from his more methodical center of the ring boxing to that kind of aggressive style. It took Hagler awhile to start pressing Duran, who wasn't a legit strong Middle weight Like Monzon. Monzon wins Ud in my book.

When did I say Hagler would beat Monzon? The point Is, Briscoe, a pretty hard puncher, managed to catch Monzon with a big right hand that sent him flying into the ropes. He also stuck in there for the whole distance and never stopped trying. To say he couldn't put a dent in Monzon is a discredit to Briscoe

Briscoe was competitive, but he lost clearly just like Hagler would lose clearly and competitively to Monzon. In fact, I actually would praise Briscoe by stating that I don't think haggler could do better than him against Monzon. Monzon UD'S haggler easier than Briscoe!

I feel Monzon did better v Napoles than Hagler would of and he wouldn`t have got caught as much by a limited fighter like Mugabi, despite Marvin begining to age around the mid to late 80`s.

Briscoe landed some good counter jabs though as shown on this study, Wilder did the same v Fury, but again a lot of people didn`t notice in that fight either.

I am going with Hagler. Monzon does not look that impressive to me on film.

Watch Hagler v Hearns again. It's Marvin who comes out taking it straight to Hearns, banging to the body and head. It only turned in to the fight it did because of Hagler's aggressive start. If Hagler fights that way against Monzon he gives him all sorts of trouble

I do not think he would be able to beat Monzon that way.

Monzon jabs Hagler's head off and wins a wide decision
