who would have won between a peak-"marvin hagler v carlos monzon"-both men being at their (peak)/young/same age?
MONZON - he played the long game so did not look as spectacular as many middleweights who would blast people out quickly, Carlos Gave very little away in mistake material, and would very subtley turn the heat up on opponents who thought they were doing great in holding carlos over the first half, of course the were invariabley going flat out whilst carlos was still in cruise mode, Carlos luxuriated in the fifteen round distance, fought all styles and remained unflappable, i cant help feeling Carlos had a gear or two he didnt need to reveal to us. HAGLER, certainly Marvin should have been champ a year or two before he was oficially crowned, but marvin as he did from his rare learning defeats absorbed the lessons and came back better then ever, nowadays how many prospect fighters (managers !) would repeatedly go into the worlds hotest middleweight furnace of Philly to take on such as Briscoe Hart Monroe and Watts,? after graduating from that school Marvin knew he had nothing to fear from the worlds best, Not a great one shot hitter, marvin was a precise hitter acheiving more through speed and timing then brute force, with a concrete chin, outstanding boxing ability and mobility, and never less than 110% physical fitness, marvin was the full package, However Marvin did afford Roberto Duran a tad too much respect, and the way Rberto was able to bounce those rights hands off of marvin, leads me to suspect he would come up a little short against Carlos. Evan an Older Thirties Carlos was twice able Weather the Storm of that Much underated Firebrand from Columbia, Rodrigo Valdezm a Prime Carlos is Capable of going a quite few Steps Higher - And Weathers ( a Too Respectful ?)Hagler - Also put some down to styles. Carlos Long Punches Enabled him to Lean Back From Counters Quite Successfuly, A cardinal Sin i am not too sure Marvin Could make him Pay For, Very Close but i Feel Carlos on Points He has the Toughness, Stamina, Boxing Ability, Strengh Durability and Power to Keep Marvin From Swamping him like he did so Many Others, i Cant Forget Marvins Overly Respectful Mentality Against Duran, Carlos Right Hands would be on a differant Level to Roberto's Flicking Shots, from 5 to 10 to 15 Carlos just increases the pace, aint no brakeman on Carlos's Train, ..so, I think Carlos on Points. Close but Clearly.
Carlos Monzon is the best mw there ever was, he´s a step above any mw in history imo. Hagler has that great chin and is always in perfect shape so he will go the distance but he will lose a very clear UD, something like 10-5.
Monzon isn't a step above Hagler. They're on the same level, but Monzon holds the edge stylistically.
