Hagler v Shuler, Hearns v Mugabi - March 10th, 1986

Interesting. Hearns would stop Mugabi in the rounds they thought Hagler would. 3 or 4 maybe sooner. Mugabi could dish out well, but Hearns punched much harder than Hagler did and he would have to in this fight. Mugabi would be dangerous at times.
Hagler would probably have a more difficult time with Shuler than people think and Hagler was rusty that night. I think Hagler would win but he would probably stop James in round 9 or so after a tough fight by James. I remember how Hearns said that in his fight with Kinchen, James didn't like the body punches so well. Well Marvin would landed body punches much better than Kinchen did.

Hearns would stop Mugabi within five rounds. It's possible that the Hitman may briefly visit the canvas himself within this span.

Hagler takes longer thann Hearns to stop Shuler. Six rounds or so.

 

I think if Mugabi put Hearns down he'd keep him there.

Agree with your sentiment though, both Hearns and Hagler win in the middle rounds.

Shuler may have gotten off to a fine boxing exhibition over a weathered and slowing down Hagler ... who knows ?

Herans v.s. Mugabi maybe have been an explosive Hearns KO or a Roldan like war ...

If Hearns fights Mugabi, he gets him out of there in seven rounds, not going to take any chances with John.As far as Marvin and James, Hagler stops Shuler in the twelth round, with Shuler showing more than anybody expected.

 

And the question of all questions that night,had Hagler and Hearns faced one another again,what would have been the result??

 

The style always goes to Hagler, but I think honestly he put his all mentally and physically into that first fight in a way I am not sure he could have duplicated, and Hearns would have come out in the rematch more calm and trying to set up a right. I honestly think since Hearns did hurt Hagler in the first fight and Tommy was a lot taller, that his leverage could have gotten him a knockout win. I think Hagler knew beating Tommy that one time was good. The second fight would have been tough and he would have been swelled up or cut and hit with the right. He could have won and used his strength to get an 8th round knockout or something. I doubt Hagler would have gotten a knockout before round 5 in a rematch. It would have been a slower fight. Hearns on the other hand? Had the fight been slower and he jabbed an avoided a brawl. I always thought he had the resume and experience with all his fight to beat Marvin. It would have been tough because Marvin had a great chin and decent power, Hearns was the variable in the rematch. Not many guys can work themselves into a frenzy like Hagler did to fight the way he did in the first fight. And also, if you see the Shuler fight, Hearns built himself into a solid middleweight for Shuler, more than he had been for Hagler.

 

The funny thing is if someone matched Shuler with Mugabi that would be hard to figure. I might pick Shuler by decision.
