The thread relates to a Hagler-Golovkin head-to-head. You have stated Golovkin could compete with Robinson, Monzon and Hagler.

I disagree and, in disagreeing, have quite naturally considered the level of Golovkin’s competition. Why wouldn’t I?

You have an opinion about Golovkin’s attributes but these qualities have never been tested against elite Middleweights. The perception of these attributes, as exceptional, has been born out of them being pitted against relative mediocrity.

Of course it’s a question of who Golovkin has fought (or hasn’t fought)!! Because, there’s a huge gap between the level of his actual opponents and the level of Robinson, Monzon and Hagler.

And, by the way, both Monzon and Hagler, when nearing the end of their careers (much like Golovkin is nearing his) were very highly regarded. Monzon, moreso in boxing circles; Hagler with a wider public acknowledgement, after his annihilation of Hearns. This high regard has only solidified, over time.

Golovkin still has unanswered questions about him. At this stage, it is unlikely they will be resolved satisfactorily.

Considering all factors, I say Hagler by UD.

I'd take Hagler by decision. I think it would be well fought with GGG giving a good account of himself. He'd be a step up from any of the Middleweights Hagler faced i think.

Due to the Hearns fight people many many don't seem to realize what a fine boxer Hagler was above all else, even in here. He would be boxing GGG utilizing his own excellent jab and precise lateral movement. Tho GGG is a smidgen taller Hagler has plenty of reach on him (which would play an important part given the pairs jabs) and this would see Hagler building up a lead on points. Hagler's chin would survive anything he happened to encounter and his own considerable offense would certainly have Golovkin respectful. I'm thinking 9-6 in rounds.

GGG would be horribly outclassed. not worth a real analysis but most likely Hagler stops him on cuts before really cutting loose. easy paycheck for Hags in preparation for bigger game. 3 rounds

come on,it would be a war, not a walkover, even if it did last 3 rounds (not impossible with them two in the ring).

    GGG takes him out late.

takes him out late? presumably to a Kazakstan restaurant for something not requiring GGG's teeth to eat.

It's a fair shout and your comments re Hagler's capabilities as a boxer are spot on - so often overlooked, when he was indeed an all-rounder with an array of top quality tools.

Where I differ with you is in the kind of scoring that we'd be looking at. I can't see it being that close in rounds, to be honest and I wouldn't entirely discount a stoppage win for Hagler, either.

I also think, again, one has to extrapolate somewhat to consider Golovkin a "step up" for Hagler, even if you're discounting Duran, Hearns and Leonard, as Middleweights he faced, as I suspect you might be.

Golovkin has stood out against a certain, lower grade of competition, whom he has been able to overpower with ease, but of late he has been run close and looked unconvincing against an improved class of competition. So, he might be the best around today but only marginally so, in my opinion. For this reason, I don't see him as an exceptional challenge for Hagler.

Mirror images of each other in many ways power goes to GGG and chin is even....both were beautiful switch step fighters....GGG jabs better but the early MMH was no slouch....GGG has the best balance of any fighter I have seen at 160 always set to throw hard and he has the best touch boxing between his big punches.....this could be a pit fight with both at their best and most destructive I think I would ride with GGG

Only the hater types would say GGG has no chance. This is a 50/50 type of fight.

Hagler had some issues engaging vs. smaller men, wait until GGG hits him.

IMO GGG hits harder, and has the better Jab. Hagler would have a slight edge on hand Speed. Both have great A chins. Ring IQ? Likely GGG.

I'm picking up what you are putting down. It really has been a weak era and the competition is almost certainly rising. I'll watch on with interest during the last segments.

like canelo GGG was 50/50? that was 5050, by def.

but canelo hagler wouldnt be 50/50 to mendoza would it, hagler would brutalize a light middle like canelo.

yet due to some mendoza voodoo magic when the letters GGG are in the mixup, GGG gets elevated.
