Your entitled to your opnion. But I am also entitled to mine. Mine is Triple G. Like D.Wilder,Like Joshua, Like Ward, Like Lomencheko, all these fighters look great because the competition is so weak. And if you've watched boxing for longer than 30 yrs it's pretty easy to see. Triple G. Was life and death with a fighter that was taken completely apart by a well schooled but natural jr. Lightweight. Alvarez didn't win a rd against Mayweather. Yet his fight with Triple G was a draw. And now were expected to believe he would be competitive against fighters like Hagler, Monzon,Greb, Robinson? In my opnion no, he wouldn't be. In fact some of Haglers title defenses would beat him. Sibson, Hamsho,Hearns, possibly a ready and in shape Duran, from my point of view could beat Triple G.Sure he hits hard. But his hands and foot speed are very average at best. Beating a bunch of 2nd and 3rd rate fighters doesn't put you in the same stratasphere as the divisions ATG's.
Flash gets it right. Hagler wins every single time and big. GGG is crazy overrated by some of you wingnuts despite running scared against Danny Jacobs and barely nipping overblown Canelo. GGG gets a complete beatdown ala Tony Sibson and gets stopped sitting on his stool.
Hagler went 11 rounds in a war with a blown-up junior-middleweight whose best wins were Curtis Parker and Frank Fletcher. Is there any particular reason to believe that Golovkin would fare worse than Mugabi did? Sincere question.
Could Triple G. Have beaten John Mugabi before the Hagler fight ? doubtful in my opinion. Beside by the time Hagler fought Mugabi he was sliding big time and everyone knew it, yet their was no doubt he won the fight. Can you say the same about Triple G vs Canelo? And besides, were talking prime Hagler vs prime Triple G. In my opinion an A scale fighter to a B or C scale fighter . No comparison.
Why, because Mugabi looked so good against small B-/C+ level 154-lbers? Golovkin is past his prime too but not only do I think that 35-36 year-old Golovkin beats Mugabi, I think he disposes of him much quicker than 31-yo Hagler did. For that matter, I'd also bet against Antuofermo or Hamsho going double-digit rounds with Golovkin like they did with prime Hagler.
Still, he fought too a draw, with a natural Jr.Middle, that Jr.Middle was completely taken apart by a Natural Jr.Light weight. And not because of the jr Middles Mugabi fought, but because of his performance against Hagler, an ATG. How many fighters Triple G. Has fought Anyone would even consider close to Hagler, even Hagler past his prime? But you have your opinions. Your certainty welcome to them. My opnion is your wrong and is Triple.G is lucky to be fighting in this extremely weak era of a slow dying sport.
I've always thought that Hagler had the style and chin to bother Golovkin more than a bit. But lately I've been wondering about the size disparity. GGG is ~173 on fight night, quite a bit more than Hagler if I'm not mistaken. Hagler could well campaign at 154 under today's weigh in rules. In a match where the damage will pile up, that size disparity could become a problem for Hagler.
GGGs real issue is his rock hard chin and determination. He will keep on coming and trying, and that is a death sentence when facing Hagler. Fighting on the backfoot is not a strong option for him. I would worry for his health, being so tough will ironically be bad for him.
obviously the difference is in the men themselves, one a man who was 2 years retired as an established himself as a top 10 MW ATG at the same age that Golovkin still had yet to win a world title. That really says it all, the gulf in class is marked.
I see Hagler as more skilled .. both have big power, maybe GGG more and maybe not .. both have amazing chins .. I see Marvin by decision ..
Hagler would take the decision against Golovkin who has a strong chin. GGG would push him though he's smart and can put pressure on him. Hagler would wing a solid, but not completely one sided decision.
You were right. After watching a lot more of Golovkin he doesn't possess the adaptability and ring generalship to pose enough of a puzzle to Hagler. Hagler thrives on straight forward. Hagler's superb jab and huge reach advantage would definitely have him winning that battle which would leave Golovkin no option but to come forward and Hagler would light him up like a Christmas Tree at regular intervals. His power, which has leveled out substantially against better opposition would not bother Hagler. Hagler's another level and a stoppage may not be completely out of the question. Well played.
