Two more years until Coral/Jade. Another seventeen until the big one, Gold - can't believe we're closer than not to reaching the 5 decade mark. This content is protected I was barely a toddler when this happened, but even had I been the age I am now, would've probably needed a diaper watching this unfold for the first time live. Cheers for that I.B.......you just made me feel bloody old! I remember in the U.K. it was shown the following evening and i somehow managed to get through the day without knowing the result before watching on ITV that night. Damn, seem's like yesterday. Tbh, that was sadly the last superfight to get me really worked up. Yes, i was rooting for Marvin.
I was 20, and got off work at 7, right when the program started. Thank God my friend's parents lived a block from where we worked so we got there just before the fight started.
Theoretically somebody could have been conceived on the night of this fight, gone through gestation and birth and childhood, had their sweet-16 and been legally old enough (in a number of states) to conceive their own child, who in turn could have by now grown up and reached the age of majority (again, depending on the jurisdiction) to legally conceive that Hagler vs. Hearns baby a grandkid. (legal so long as they're no further along than first trimester) Let that sink in.
Now that's really making some of us feel old lol .Another anniversary coming up 30 Years since Tyson v Spinks ..30years !I When Tyson was a young undefeated lad .And the world was a simpler place
I remember being at Cincinnati Gardens for the closed circuit showing on the big screen. . Hagler had NEVER fought like that before and when he came out swinging and then Tommy hit him, it was on and everyone watching standing up. Just like Duran should have retired after Montreal, Hagler should have retired after Hearns. Each would be unbeatable legends forever. I think the best picture in sports showing the conqueror and the conquered is the one of Hag being carried aloft in victory while in, the background Hearns is cradled and carried to his corner.
Watched it on closed circuit at Massasoit Junior College in Brockton that night in 1985....great fight!!! More action in those 3 rounds than in the "fights" in this day & age!!!
So so true RJ!.Its definitely not a Case of rose tinted glasses either. The fight s did seem more action packed back in the day .
Sonovab man, I remember this fight like it was yesterday. I was in college at the time, and had a big debate with a couple of my buddies after my poli sci class the day before. They both insisted that Hearns would destroy Hagler, I argued the exact opposite, and clearly was right. Gotta cut them some slack, though, they were a couple of casuals, while I was, even then, a total boxing diehard.
