I don't think so. Hearns and Hagler were not wild swinging. These were two top fighters and even in that exciting round their punches were pretty sharp. That first round is the best first round in boxing history, and the best round ever. If there is a better round show it to me. I heard the comment at the time that had there been knockdowns in that round, it would have only delayed the action. Total action and skill. Anyone who says that it was wild swinging is younger and wants more attention on the fighters now. But most fighters now would not take that chance.

One of my favorite fights ever. Hearns came out Detroit style with his guns blazing, really stupid strategy, but he had no legs due to some groupies giving him a deep tissue leg massage minutes before the fight. Manny Steward should take a lot of blame for this, he should've had Tommy locked down, no hoochies allowed.

have to agree with this. first round was amazing but it didn't keep for all 3 rounds. it's one of the best fights of all time but their were some brilliant wars in the 80s that had much more sustained action and are terribly underrated

Actually I think Hearns fought the ONLY fight he had a chance of winning, maybe hurt him early and build up rounds then box and stay away as best he could, of course he couldn't. I was suprised the Hagler started so quickly, he usually took a few rounds to get up to a full head of steam

I thought Hearns could have boxed him but he already had the broken hand from the first round.

He did soem good work in the first half of round 2 by being on his toes and using range.

"Hagler-Hearns" and "Rosario-Ramirez 2" were great quickie type fights where the fans were NOT jacked off or dicked over....... I also thought "Arguello-Costello" finished in exciting fashion...... "Moorer-Cooper" made me cream in my jeans back in '92.....

    Note:

This "Dempsey-Firpo" brawl might have been great, but where the **** is the film footage to judge just how great it was? All I have are stills and paperwork about the fight, so I honestly cannot make a clean call there......

    Most definetly:good

I was lucky enough to watch this live at Portsmouth Guildhall by satalite link at 5.30am:happy one of only 3 venue's in the UK, the hairs on my arms have just jumped up now as i type this just recalling being one of the 3,000 drunk/brawling/screaming mob that witnessed this awesome spectacle that none of us present could have ever predicted in one million ****in years:D

It was split down the middle & i went for Hagler to win in 6 & Hearns fan were all loading the book with Hagler being wiped out in 4 & no one said the distance. It was seen as the ultimate showdown as to who would be KING what with tommy KO'ing duran in 2 & hagler going the full 15 with duran, well, the whole world was in a full on rabid state just slavering at hearing the 1st ring @ ding.

Talk about the "HIGH NOON" showdown, no one could hear **** all commentary as the screaming was ****in unreal as it went this way/that way/this way/that way inside the first 90 seconds, we were all breathless & demented & in absolute ecstasy at this street scrap, yeh, **** the boxing lets have a tear up:lol:

I'll never forget the shocked & shattered expressions on the Hearns fans faces when Hagler finally nailed him, jeezus i must have emptied a couple of pints of flob/phlegm onto the distraught Hearns fans who were standing below as us Hagler fans screeched with un-adulterated glee:D

I went to work on a construction site straight from the fight & none of the ****ers could believe it when i told-em that Hearns had just been wiped out, all i got was **** OFF, **** OFF, all Hearns fans that owed me money, it hit the radio's at about 7.30am UK time then it was, pay up yer mugs:D

Even the riot police that jammed the place were all smiles, what a FIGHT:deal

    Yes, no doubt.

If it had lasted a bit longer at that pace, it could have been the best ever fight period, rd 1 was likely the best ever rd as it is, imagine another 4 or 5 rds on top of those 3 rds ? :admin :yep

It wasn't a "big" fight like Hagler-Hearns, but Liles-Littles 2 was a great short fight.
