I think Jacobs was better than anyone Hagler fought at middle, Hearns brawled too much at middle he was much better and quicker at the lower weights.

Well said. Thanks for putting Jacobs’s family members in their place.

It's debatable. But, I see no evidence to suggest this statement is the likely case.

Why and by what degree is Jacobs better than anyone Hagler fought at Middleweight, in your opinion?

Because none of Hagler`s opponents would have fought well vs GGG, Hearns punch wouldn`t have been as effective against a hardy chin like GG`s as it was against Shuler`s.

OK - that's not really an evidence-based claim. It's another opinion, which is fine but not one I necessarily agree with.

I'm also not sure of the point you're trying to make.

You've initially responded to my prediction on a fantasy fight between Hagler and Jacobs, in which I suggest Hagler would win handily and early. However, you've not made your own view on that speculative match-up known.

    So what is it?

I been very impressed with Jacobs, especially after the Kid Chocolate KO. He is a good middleweight and although I thought he lost a close decision to GGG he was very competitive. He would give Hagler the same kind of fight in my opinion but I think Marvin wins with his agression UD

I feel Hagler would have struggled to cut the ring off the same way he did at the tail end of his career vs Leonard I also think Jacobs would catch Hagler with more right hands than Duran did, Roberto would have landed better but his arms were just too short, Marvin usually had a reach advantage over his foes.

Jacobs would have been a light heavyweight in Hagler's day. No way known he makes 160 with the weight in rules back then.

Its a real bug bear of mine when people talk about fantasy fights involving moderns vs guys from the old school weigh in era.

    Cheers All.

THIS EXACTLY! Not middleweight s or whichever division. Be like HAMSHO fighting Mancini without same day weighing

This. Jacobs was probably at or close to 180 when he fought Golovkin.

Hearns and Leonard have a great shot against GGG.

That, he might have been. However, to suggest he couldn’t have made 160, due to a same day weigh-in (which is what I assume you’re referring to) is misleading.

Jacobs clearly can make 160. He just wouldn’t have had as long to rehydrate and pile on water weight, as he can do, today.

Same day weigh-ins still occur in combat sports and use different rehydration strategies to manage the shorter timeframe, between weigh-in and the contest.

In any event, Jacobs would get killed at light-heavy, which would have been his only option back in the early ‘80s. Today, he could compete at 168 but, so far, he hasn’t looked like wanting to go there.

On the other hand, give Marvin today’s rules and the Day-Before Weigh-in. Same result. He still beats Jacobs.

lol@ Jacobs being better than anybody Hagler ever fought :nut:

At 154 both Leonard and Hearns would beat Jacobs without needing to move up to 160. Jacobs was no better than 160lbs Marcos Geraldo and Leonard cleaned his clock in a stunning display of speed and aggression while weighing under the JMW limit.

If 154 pounder Mora can flatten Jacobs then Tommy would have a good chance of knocking him spark out.

Even Benny Briscoe would be too tough and fierce for Jacobs who has very suspect durability. .
