I just watched the 1987 Middleweight Title fight between Marvin Hagler and Ray Leonard. I scored it twice and the results were 4 rounds for Leonard, 4 rounds for Hagler, with 4 even. Both times I watched the fight I had it a draw :think. For those of you out there that have watched that fight in depth who do you think was the victor, and did anyone else have it a draw?
Leonard won, Hagler wasted some rounds boxing southpaw. Gave the first two rounds to SRL. Ray fought smart and flurried to steal rounds. Haglers work to the body I felt was ignored as well.
Hagler started too slow (fighting orthodox the first few rounds), but i thought it should have been a draw
Leonard won this fight. Apart from an obvious preference for Hagler, I really don't understand why people dispute the decision. You can't have 4 rounds even. When on earth has a fight been judged with 4 rounds even?
:rofl:rofl:rofl Thats why I dont talke some dudes serious! How the hell are you gonna have 4 rounds even?
I thought Leonard won but Hagler came on strong in the later rounds. I think Hagler fighting orthodox early on really cost him. I also think had it been 15 rounds Hagler would have been victorious.
Hagler should've boxed southpaw from the start. I NEVER score even rounds, a fighter must always have done something to take a round, even if it's landing one extra clean jab. I had it 6-6. I'm a big Hagler fan but he cost himself the victory.
It depends on your fight preference...aggression- Hagler, ring generalship- Leonard...I was just wondering why there was no point deduction on Leonard regarding low blows?
I had it 2 points for Leoanrd. Hagler gave away the first 4 rounds in a 12 round fight and thats hard to do.
I watched this fight about 100 times and I can not really see how anybody can score it for Hagler. Sure Leonard was flashy but he is landing punches.
I dont see why there is so much controversy about this fight, if Hagler had not kicked up a stink that decision wouldn't even be debated today. I can think of fights that were a closer than this one, but they are not debated half as much.
Marvin Hagler performed poorly that fight, and that was the only reason Ray Leonard managed to survive. Leonard was clearly over matched. The fight was close, and as I see it a case can be made for either man winning. Hagler wanted the rematch, but Leonard wouldn't give it to him. Hardly surprising, Hagler would most likely have knocked him out the second time.
