I don't think Hagler was prime for the Hearns fight. Prime for prime, I believe Marv decisions James due to his movement and workrate. Also, this fight could go 50 rounds and no one gets knocked out.
At MW, I take Hagler without question. He was always conditioned to the nth degree, and I think that besides Toney's cuteness, Hagler was the better fundamental boxer, and had more power, and was more flexible. He had a big chip on his shoulder and a mean streak a mile wide. Toney at MW was not as good as he would be at the higher weights.
Toney fought Barkley at 168 pounds. At 160, I take Hagler by UD. He would outwork Toney who was at his best at 168 pounds.
Hagler would dominate Toney, esp Prime vs Prime. Though Hagler wouldn't stop Toney, he wouldve beat the hell out of him. Though Toney had A.T.G skill level. Their was something missing. And that was the desire. And that would've been the difference in the, fight .
Exactly that. Hagler was the sort of guy to walk through fire for the win, and he came in tuned against everybody. That's what I meant by him having a mean streak. He couldn't handle the idea of another guy being better than him.
weight is critical here. at 160 hagler is prime andoutpoints toney marginally. above that toney takes it, same manner.
Toney beats Hagler. I know that goes against the grain but while Hagler was a heck of a fighter, he tends to be overrated. Toney is the exact opposite, also a heck of a fighter but very underrated.
Interesting match up. A prime Hagler gives James his toughest fight . Toney would no he was in with a guy he couldn't intimidate and was just as hard core as himself. Toney I can see would be the best version of him self in this fight, no taking round off and going to sleep in this one!Hagler would find this one tricky, the shoulder rolls, sneaky fast punches from off the ropes, tone grinning at marvellous. But Hagler s a pro and still goes to work. Dishing out his hardest punches through a scowl! It's always Hagler slightly ahead, toney tried his best but at the end it's Hagler by unanimous. But both men leave the ring with respect for each other.
This is one of the ultimate match ups at middleweight. I see it being a very close fight fought at a fast pace. I think they would split the early rounds but hagler would come on late and win the fight. I would love to see a prime young toney go 15 rounds with hagler
