Hagler is perhaps the most durable middle weight I have seen. I think he could have taken heavyweight punches better than some ranked heavies. But just how durable was Marvin? Suppose he meet Tyson in a 4 round fight with the following rules: If Hagler lasts the distance and is down less than three times, he wins. If Tyson floors him three times or more or gets the stoppage he wins. Who are you picking?
surprised if Hagler last 1 round with Mike knowing it was a 4 rounder ...too much raw power for Marvin to sustain
How about a bigger twist? They only fight if the HEAVYWEIGHT Tyson has cancer, or Aids. What a fvcking STUPID thread.
I know this is a bizarre thread but, Mendoza, I have to say, one of my biggest what-if curiosities about my favourite fighters is how Hagler, who was perfectly suited to middleweight, would have done if he had attempted weight jumping feats. Sure, it could've been a shocking disaster. But with his uncommon durability, skill and the fact that he had heavy hands enough to likely gain respect from much bigger men, who knows? I mean, okay, maybe Tyson under even this proposed circumstance is too odd for most of us to go with you but say Qawi at 175? That always struck me as extremely interesting and could've happened.
Well Hagler v Qawi...gee, to be honest Qawi was a little wrecking ball. Saad was a tough, tough man and Qawi took him to the cleaners. It's possible Hagler could go the distance I suppose, but he'd take more punishment than in any other fight he was ever in, and in all probability would be hanging on at the end, should he make it. As to the thread title, well durable as Hagler was, if Tyson find that chin it's over. Just no way a middleweight can handle that sort of power.
This thread would have never existed if Hagler agreed to go up to LHW and fight Michael Spinks. Durability has its's limits, common sense shouldn't.
