No, Herol Graham was NOT a bad boxer; he had talent.... Not much power, but he could box and school some young puppies pretty good..... Despite being old / aging, I was shocked when he lost to a comebacking Vinny Paz back in the mid-90s...... I have that fight on tape somewhere.... I gotta look for it for review purposes...... MR.BILL I was also shocked that Paz beat a fading Robbie Sims, as well... Geez, that had to be back about 1993, if my memory serves me right.?.? Vinny Paz had some names under his wing, but, he beat good fighters who were aging / old at the time.....
I saw that. Very good fight....Ugly ending with Green's mother screaming in horror for the fight to be stopped, as Green was in the corner with a ****ed up eye, getting his ass kicked.
Graham beat Paz. terrible fight where both fighters looked totally shot.I'm amazed that Graham was able to bother the decent Brewer so much after that.
Hagler had no interest in fighting at light heavy ... he was honest about his limits ... he was a terrific, legitimate middleweight .... he was too small for light heavyweight ...
The fact that Hagler continually fought the best, the most established and the hottest name fighters is what makes this such a solid and interesting thread. Sounds like McCallum is the most popular choice, followed by Frank Fletcher. I know I was interested in seeing a possible Ronnie Harris defense since he was built up by the mags as such a ring wizard, but then he got stopped in miraculous fashion by Sammy NeSmith and never bobbed back near the top afterwards. Nobody wanted to see Hagler massacre NeSmith. Even those of here in Indy who saw him regularly. Good thread and good responses. Many thanks.
Qawi would've indeed eaten up Hagler at 175...... Hagler was wise to remain at 160 and clean-out the division.... Hagler was my man at 160...... By 1987, Hagler was still ripped, but slower than ever before..... Peace... MR.BILL
Frank Fletcher, Dwight Davidson, and Curtis Parker. But Fletcher was effectively eliminated by Roldan, and earlier, by Scypion, Davidson by Sibson, and Parker, by Hamsho, Davidson, and Scypion. So really, Hagler pretty much faced everyone.
Hagler, like Ali before him,did n't duck anyone. He took on all comers. The middles you mention were coming along as Marvin was about to have his final fight. He never entertained the notion of moving up in weight.
