No U, not old enough to see the Macgnon/ Anderthal bout. My first main event bout was when David a mere stripling of a lad , smote Goliath in
2 rounds. Quite an upset that eventful night. I recall the 4 round debut of
a youngster with the name of Bernard Hopkins if my memory is correct...
Ah those were the days when men were men I say !!! No travel by airplanes from city to city, the fighters traveled by camel, always looking for a hump...Yes the good old says...

Is there actually a reason for everybody here dismissing this? Is it just more fun to dismiss it? Cause all i can really see is that i've given valid reasons and the 2 pictures easily showing that Hagler looks exacly like it and you've all kind of just said no with no actual reason behind it...
I mean i know you think it's pretty funny but i've been the one making the most sense on here believe it or not i've given pictures and talked about it ect ect and none of you have really given any smart feedback, or atleast a good reason to proove that im wrong

I don't know if I would have brought up the origins of man, just put it down to varying skull shapes in modern humans, but yes you do have a point in that Hagler's skull shape is perhaps indicative of a propensity to absorb punishment. It is clear to see that, if hit on the jaw, the pivot-like motion of the head that bounces the brain around inside would have been lessened. Add to that an allegedly thicker temporalis, strong neck, iron will and a good habit for keeping the chin tucked and you have a very durable boxer.

Hagler had a thicker than usual skull according to one of his doctors.

Not skull Temporalis muscle, which i've read some people say that was usual to men around the time i am talking about... hence why i made this thread, and the men around this time were also averaging the exact same height as Marvin, just my thought though dosent really matter if you dont believe me...

I didn't say I disbelieve you, I just remember a doctor saying he had a thicker than usual skull.

Ok then what about Lamottas skull, he could arguably take a better punch than Hagler..
Lamotta, wasn't knocked down until his 106th pro fight:deal..
Hagler was knocked down by Roldan, and was shook up by Hearns..

yes they can,

hagler had homi erectus javaman skull
lamotta had a huge head
slight difference, but both resulted in great punch resistance

I qwas an Anthropology Major & am 100% certain that you should not be remotely certain about something you have such a tenuous, speculative grasp of.

You meant nothing by it, but you are way out of the loop if you did not realize that essentially calling black people more primitive-linked with lower intelligence & brutality-has been a viciious racist attack forever. You do not need to show you said other black guys are normal...just meant Hagler-we know, it is the unavoidable unfortunate impression created.

Do you know what it means to be more "directly evolved" from a long extinct ancestor or if it is even possible?

A few educational points you need to understand.

1) Having certain traits more similar to another species or sub-species alone by themselves does not show that one is les evolved or not fully modern. For example: modern humans have big skulls. But amongst those clearly WITHIN homo sapiens, there is *no* correlation between brain size-even corrected for body or skeletal size-& intelligence. Likewise a man with a jutting or receeding this or that...There is natural variation within all species. Did you know Neanderthals if anything had a slightly lareger skull? Just shaped very differently, less abstract intelligence.

2) Hagler is nowhere near having a Homo Erectus skull. The shaved head exagerates a slightly receding shape, but his brain volume & shape is not so unusual. His skull is not remotely like Homo Erectus in its constellation of traits. And his mouth area & jaw is merely slightly prognathus, very common, while his chin does NOT recede like our ancestors, AND he does not even have a very thick brow!

3) The height point is more misguided nonsense-for one being tall or short for a species does not make you suspect of being another animal, like Jockeys & NBA/volleyball players are not less human. AND Hagler is almost exactly average height. And where did you hear he was exactly an average Homo Erectus height? Due to genetics & better nutrition humans have gotten taller, show me anywhere that they found a skeleton Marvin's height! There was some misinformation previously, a speculation based upon a speculation, but any investigation reveals they were significantly shorter, between the height of Australopithecus & modern man. t/weblog/reviews/erectus/changing-height-homo-erectus-2010.html

4) Hagler is not some sort of a throwback or missing link (itself a misconception). And you did not present the evidence that ancestors had thicker skulls, though they tended to. There is much variation in modern man, but you need a completely different constellation of traits to be a predecessor. Hagler looks virtually *nothing* like any artist's renderings of Homo Erectus, scroll down & see the various representations, even the female has a dramatically rougher appearance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo_erectus

There is much pseudo-science still out there, the belief in measuring skulls to chart mental & psychological traits (phrenology) chief amongst them.

And show me the 30 MPH & still accelerating speed. speculation. I doubt that is believed by many scientists. There is no genetic reason to believe that anyone could run faster than the most outlier highly trained under advantaged man today, so well trained & under ideal surface & nutritional conditions, & so many more people to push the limits. People may read one thing, especially on the Internet, & not know how to compare evidence & evaluate the sources & credibility.

The discussion may be fun, but it both has no relation to reality, & gives an unfortunate dehumanizing effect upon a hard working black man.

Oh, by the way, a cursory examination shows you that Homo Erectus lived from ~ 2 million to 100,00 years ago,

I have a Neanderthal forehead. Prominent brow, kind of sloped, thick skull. I've never been KO'd despite being hit by hard objects and moving vehicles. Whether or not my brain/personality has been damaged is another debate entirely.
