i remember reading on here that Marvin Hagler used to love biscuits, his favourites were bourbon creams and he used to eat aload on the day of the fight to boost his energy and make him calm before a fight. Any more info on this? :think
The "Hagler ate ____ before fights" has become a "pool on the roof"/snipe-hunt type internet meme, I think.
It's true, my uncle knew Minter very well and apparently "bourbon" was a nickname of Haglers in the gym. I heard sparring partners found it amusing because bourbons crumble really easily, yet Haglers chin was solid, more like a hobnob.
Hagler used to run in the howling lung burning winds of cape cod, training in solitary confinement, living in a abandoned hotel thats been derelict for years, a bit like the place in the Shining. Headbutting live crabs was one of the ways to toughen his head and get him used to blows. When he wasnt training with the petronelli's of course.
Hagler didnt spar until he was in brockton but a month or so before proper camp for technique and sparring, he was in cape cod training for stamina and strength. Hagler broke crab shells with his head and fists to 'toughen' them up before camp. Hagler never lost a sparring session in his prime, he was never dropped and till this day he credits the crab smashing for his great chin. this is pretty rare stuff, but its true.
