I just read a post about wasted talent and it made me think about boxers who were actually very dedicated. In thinking about that, I began thinking about Marvin Hagler. What do you think Hagler's greatest trait as a boxer was? His ring IQ, ability to box and brawl, commitment to training, being a "switch-hitter", his jaw, etc. For me I would have to say that it was his determination. The man seemed to have an iron will that would not bend despite everything that got tossed his way, and I think that it was this that helped shape many of his other traits. What do you think was Hagler's greatest trait?
Hagler made himself the star he was and is nobody else, no marketing gimmicks just pure relentless determination to be recognised as a great fighter.
Great question, but u should've put this on the classic forum. The general forum turns good dialogue into **** really fast. Anyways boxing was Hagler's life. Second to none. His 100% dedication to the sport made him who he was.
Relentless determination as mentioned above.. along with his conditioning and durability. Hagler was truly amazing. I love seeing him in different fight situations because he's so versatile, he could fight inside, outside, brawl, box, orthodox, southpaw..
I would say versatility. It says something about a fighter who normally fought the way he did, would be able to switch it up so dramatically and fight Hearns the way he did, and knock him out in 3. It wasn't just anyone he did this against, it was against a great in Hearns.
Hagler was a beast, concrete chin, fast hands, adaptability, ring IQ,power, etc etc. If i had to choose one word to describe him,i'd say "RELENTLESS".
His training stands out to me. He would hold have training camps out in the middle of no where no tv radio just him his trainer and sparring partners.
