Very interesting selections. Always a fighter that doesn't seem to fit, but goes to show how underrated fighters can be.

If those are legit, Dundee's makes me laugh.

Ali and SRL at #1 and #2, with no Langford in the top 10? :patsch

    I'm surprised it wasn't -

    #1 Ali
    #2 SRL
    #3 Liston
    #4 Foreman
    #5 Duran
    #6 Hagler
    #7 Hearns
    #8 Liston
    #9 Frazier
    #10 Benitez
#11-100 - a bunch of other guys that Ali and Leonard beat.

Or some **** like that :D

Rocky Marciano made it on all but one of the lists. Marciano was great, but he should NOT be in a top ten pound for pound thing.

Manny Steward's list is the most sensible, but it does have George Foreman.

People say, “ Oh Eddie Futch, he’s great” and I say, “ Yeah, look at him. The mother****er had 24 mother****ers that were already made so wakeup mother****er.” He didn’t make no ****ing champions. - Roger Mayweather

The problem with his pound for pound list, is names like Hearns, Foreman, Hagler, kinda of ruins it for me, I would have replace them with more proven "Pound for Pounders" like Barney Ross, Tony Cani, and eiither Bob Fitz or Micky Walker.
Ali is high also, number 1 in fact, but I not going to get in a war over that. I think Armstrong, Ross, Fitz, Cani has done more imo to be rank over Ali.

"Pound for Pound" is kind of an ambiguous term, in my opinion.

I always thought that it answered the question "Who is the best fighter in the world"? Obviously, a flyweight isn't going to beat a heavyweight. But "pound for pound" takes that into account.

Some evaluators/fighters, though, see the criteria as "winning titles/fights in many different weight classes". This isn't relevant, in my opinion, because a fighter could very well win titles in 4-5 weight classes (in the modern era) and NOT be the best fighter in the world. He could have 10 guys in his "best" weightclass favored to beat him senseless.

I never understood why people say guys like Monzon, Hagler, and heavyweights aren't "p4p level talents" because they never left their weight class. I think there's more to be said about a fighter's ability in dominating a weight class than just hopping around and picking off titleholders.

Muhammad Ali could very well be the #1 P4P talent, in my opinion. If one feels that he was the most talented/capable and/or best h2h.

Obviously, his resume probably doesn't stack up to someone like SRR, but if we're talking talent that isn't the only deciding factor.

Odd that Roger Mayweather would say that when he is also in that predicament having only taken over traing Floyd Mayweather when Sr left.

Yeah, there are issues, and my own P4P list only shares a few names in common. I just say his is the best because it doesn't have Marciano (though it does have Foreman, who is even more out of place) and it's the only one with Sam Langford. The guys in my own top 5 only show up a couple of times out of all of those lists.

Trainers often have the worst all time lists. They pick people they know and like.

I posted these lists years ago - some atrocious selections at times.
