Any idea what a man like Mickey Walker's record was against top-10 opponents? It's hard to gauge from The Ring's ratings, especially because it picks up in 1924, but I would be surprised if he didn't fight around 50 times against them.

Unfortunately Walker's record is incomplete for me (hhascup would probably know).

Anyway just of the ones I have Walker is 10-8-1 with 2 no decisions. This cuts off the front half of his career at the least and includes his decline; going into the Schmeling fight he was 9-3-1. And he probably fought a few more. Those are just the ones I have listed.

On the surface, it seems likely that he could have fought 40 or 50 times against top-10 opposition, as his resume is packed with contenders of the time and his weight hopping had to have helped. Would love to know the true total, but I appreciate your effort. Maybe Hascup can clear things up.

Henry Clark was rated #5 WBA, #9 Ring, when he battled Sonny Liston. I'd like to know what sources for their top ten contenders Boxing Register did use? (Fighter's records). Apparently they did not use Ring Magazine either, Norton's Ko loss to Garcia ( A 10" Symbol by Garcia) Jose Luis Garcia, was not ranked by anyone at that time.

I've had eight years to think about this. You were right. I was wrong. I should have been doing it for champs and contenders at the time instead of listing guys who were champs at any point in their careers.
