    From the scene.

An informal poll was conducted of boxing writers from the Boxing Writers Association of America on whether to induct Naz into the IBHOF in 2009.

Only 23% of BWAA electors surveyed a positive response when asked if they were putting a check mark next to Hameds name.

I would put him in for sure, what does everyone think?

    Nah don't think so.

After his first (and only, as it turned out) defeat, he ran away like a little ***** instead of trying to avenge it, or come back stronger.

Hamed held a world title, made several defences, and had some exciting fights. Others have gone in with less, (Ingemar Johhansen for example), so I vote yes.

I would not place Naz in the HOF. His resume was weak, he never fought enough quality opponents, and the very first time he fought a great fighter he was beaten convincingly and never recovered. I can see why some people would put him in there, but personally I don't think he has done enough.

    Not a chance

McGuigan got in as much for what he did for boxing, being an ambassador too.

Its not just skills that get you in

He did a lot to showcase the lower weight classes. Achieved a lot, always entertained and got us all talking, still to this day so yes I would vote him in. Although I'm probs a little biased as I grew up following his career as a fan from the UK.

I wouldn't call him an atg. He was short of that clearly. But many lesser boxers have got in so why the hell not? Mcguigan anyone?
Very solid resume. Although he was well beaten the only time he fought an atg, he did manage to defeat a whole string of very decent fighters before that. Some people are laughably biased when it comes to Naz.

I would say no. But considering some of the names already in there, I would say yes.

Criteria for the HOF might be taking on and beating guys before they were on their decline. Take a look at how many fights Kelly had by the time he fought Nas. Most of those names you mention had loads of wear and tear, talking right around or over 50 fights for most of the name fighters he fought.

I'd have a lot more respect for him and believe he might deserve to be in the HOF had he hung around and showed some balls, taken on guys that he is supposed to be compared to, like Barrera, Morales, possibly Marquez. There are just too great matchups that could have happened, great fighters who now earned their way into the hall of fame who were right around his age.

He doesn't deserve to be held up like they do. Had he fought them, lost or won to them, then sure. He showed his true colors. Behind all that flash, he wasn't a fighter inside. He quit.

Naz has many faults but resume is not one of them.

If people wanted to keep him out because of his loathsome personality then fair enough. Leaving someone to die after you've run them over is sick and I hope he gets whats coming to him. But his resume is pretty solid imo.
