Well considering that Tyson was 21 years old and Holmes was still a highly rated fighter who was just coming off 2 close losses to Spink, with some believing that the second fight could have gone his way, I think that Tyson gets just enough credit for that win alone. I don't think it's fair to judge a fighter based on just one notable fight that he lost to, especially if that's the only fight that you've seen from him. Bungu wasn't great by any means but he was a solid fighter with some good wins over Kennedy McKinney and Danny Romero. Point being that it's not valid to say that Hamed only fought scrubs even though his resume still has a lot to be desired.
I think its fair to judge Bungu on that one fight alone because if he couldnt really challenge Hamed who was technically flawed and made so many careless mistakes in the ring, then just how good was he? Who were these 13 title defenses against, and how good were the guys he was beating when he was relevent in your eyes? Too many questions for me, but feel free to enlighten me. Romero and Mckinney are pretty decent wins. Romero after the Tapia fight was regressing badly. He started losing fights to guys he should have beat, vorapin ect. And mckinney is a good win, i just checked and that fight happened in 94 and they had a rematch?. Never seen it might check it out later today.
Easy to forget that Hamed was verging on done by the time the MAB fight happened - struggling to make weight and hands shot to bits. That's not to say that even prime Hamed would've beaten MAB necessarily, but it certainly would've been much more competitive IMHO. I think prime Hamed probably makes Tank look silly at times and gives both his chin and ability to keep cool and stick to his gameplan a far stiffer test than the second rate opponents he's fought to date... Prime Hamed was genuinely elite, and Tank hasn't beaten anyone on that level yet - it's not impossible that he could, but he's got to prove more before I'd pick him here. The borderline shot Hamed that fought MAB? I'd give Tank decent odds against that Hamed, but I don't think he'd find it easy.
I think it says more about Hamed being such a dominant and highly talented fighter than Bungu being a poor fighter. Hamed was a really gifted fighter for a time. Yeah Hamed had his flaws with poor fundamentals and was able to get away with it because of his athleticism but so did Roy Jones Jr and to even Ali. Again I’m not saying Bungu was anything special nor was his resume anything to write home about I’m just saying that he did well for himself prior to the Hamed fight and 13 title defenses with the wins over McKinney and Romero is still impressive enough. Bungu is no worse than the guys Tank has been feasting on. As unfulfilled as Hamed’s resume is he still achieved just enough and beat some pretty good names. Say what you will about Kelley, Vazquez, Bungu, or McCullough they were all solid fighters when Hamed beat them.
Hamed was a bit more proven but give Davis some time to catch up. I'd lean towards Davis being slightly better but this would be an awesome fantasy fight.
Bungu is miles better than anyone on Tank's resume at the moment. Also besides his best win, by sheer numbers Hamed has a lot more wins vs world level fighters.
Lets break this down... Lets just go back to 1994 because anything below that is irrelevant, how many fighters on this list are world level? lol the other day you were saying catch weights and rehydration clauses were NOT a new thing because Sugar Ray Leonard did it.
Bungu, Soto, Ingle, McCullough, Johnson, Medina, possibly Kelley, possibly Vasquez, though he was quite undersized. 6-8 world class wins. (I'd pick 7) Tank has R Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, Jose Pedraza, arguably Hector Luis Garcia and Liam Walsh, potentially Isaac Cruz. 3-6 world class wins. (I'd pick 4) I'll admit that the difference in # of world class wins isn't as big as I thought it would be, but look at the difference in the actual level of "world class" these names are. I placed Bungu at #4 on my top 122ers ("super bantam" for search) of all time in my list on the Classic forum just earlier this year, and he was at the peak of his career when he got washed by Hamed. Medina is better at featherweight than anyone Tank has fought is at 130, 135 or 140.
Fair enough on everything else you wrote. But Medina being better than anyone at 130, 135, or 140 that Tank beat I disagree with. He lost all his big fights, tho some could have went his way. He was tough but had trouble with movers and solid counter punchers which is why he had 16 losses, the sniper would have boxed his ears off imo.
You probably started watching Boxing after you saw Ryan Garcia on TikTok. Your first watched event was this weekend 100%, new member title says it all. Tank isn’t anywhere near that level, never will be. Educate yourself
Yes you're right..I just learned of this sport because of Ryan Garcia and tuned in to my first fight this weekend and thought I'd join a boxing forum to read your moronic takes
