Im starting to wonder if you have watched any of his fights now...You havent seen any of Vazquez, so i wouldnt be suprised if you havent seen any of Marquez' as well, would make alot of sense on why you think of all this.

 

Hamed at least faced a top fighter in his prime....unlike Joe Calzaghe

 

You have to accept that Calzaghe beat Hopkins and Jones. Live with it accept it and move on. Still when was Hopkins prime as Calzaghe beat him sandwiched between Hopkins best wins of Tarver, Wright and Pavlik. Also at 31 I wouldnt say Eubank was past his prime, and Kessler won 2 world titles after Calzaghe beat him, Reid looked very unlucky not to have won against Ottke and beat undefeated Magee now Butes next challenger, Mkertchyan went on to beat the undefeated European champ to become European champ, Hopkins went on to beat undefeated Pavlik, and drew with the current LHW champ. Sheika went on to challenge for world honours more than once. Jones beat Lacy and Sheika who has just given Diaconu a hard fight.

I believe the people who call him 'hypejob', etc are the people overrating him, if that makes sense. I believe they feel that he is getting more credit than is deserved, when in fact, it is said people who are making out that he gets more credit than deserved and underrating him.

Since I've been on this forum, apart from maybe 1 or 2...no-one has called him an ATG, no-one has called him the GOAT. He gets ranked and judged fairly on this forum, it's the people that don't like him that feel he constantly gets overrated...and I'm positive they are just saying that because they can.

Hamed was great for boxing. He was an entertainer with knockout power in either hand. He was the first boxer ever to unofficially hold all 4 World Titles in one division. However, he didn't achieve what he could have done in the sport. He didn't have the hunger for it, he didn't have the longevity to call himself amongst the best boxers in history.

You see, very few overrate Hamed. All of his fans on this forum, including me, all repeat this constantly...yet people choose to ignore it and claim we overrate him. When in fact it is the complete opposite on their part.

This didn't make him a boxing pioneer. It made him a flawed fighter who was always going to be exposed once he met someone capable of capitalizing on his glaring weaknesses.

Hamed's style was not unique (many Ingle fighters fought similarly), and it was not effective at the top level. This 'style' was basically a guy who used his speed and power to go headhunting, had a weak jab, didn't know how to defend himself at all, and never threw effective combinations.

Not really. The basis is the fact that Marco Antonio Barrera did what the people in the know had expected from day one. Slapped the **** out of him and embarrassed him by utilizing very simple but very effective boxing fundamental skills. The basis is also the way that guys like Kevin Kelley, Augie Sanchez and others found him very, very easy to hit because he was so small and had such a bad defence.

The very idea that Hamed would have a snowball's chance in hell against Pacquiao, Mayweather, Marquez, Morales calibre fighters makes me laugh. That's like comparing a circus clown to a ringmaster.

 

Actually you and a couple others are right. Though I am a serious boxing fan since the 70's. Not that I have not been paying attention. I have heard of his battles, but have yet to see the due to work. That's all. I can't catch every fight out there. Marquez and his brother I know. If you had paid attention to my past posts, I did say I would catch up on Vasquez. I just find it insulting that just because I missed his fights, I am not a serious fan of the sport. ****, I use to live and breath boxing a lot more in the past. With all this PPV BS, it hard to catch some of these fights. Again, I will watch his fights. Example: I still shadow box in the Retro Gym and I was asked if I wanted to participate in some light sparring. If you could see me as they do, they look at me like I workout as a pro. I admitted to them with no shame that I would possibly last a minute before I get into trouble. It might spark a fire in me just to get back into it just for the sparring, but I have to start running. No shame in my game. I won't post anything else about Vasquez until I am caught up. Only cause you put me out there or did I. Refraining with posts should fall over the trolls and posters that talk trash. I am either and respect most posters here whether they know what they are talking about or not. That is why it is called debating. You can learn from each other.

I have seen Marquez's fights. I still think a prime Naz stops him. Barrera was on fire and Naz did not take the fight seriously in my mind. Marquez's recovery is excellent, but to get hit by Naz then get up and then dropped again would end the fight. I mean, this is a fantasy fight and if I am wrong, I am wrong. I normally don't stand this strong about an outcome, but my gut says he gets stopped in the late rounds. let's not use Barrera. Let's say it happened prior to Barrera and Naz was determined.

 

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Featherweight version of Marquez wouldn't be caught with hard shots. Don't compare him to today's version of JMM. JMM nowadays has become hittable and has tweaked his style a bit....and don't even start with Pac knocking him down 3 times when they fought at Featherweight. Naz sure has tremendous power, but he's not as aggresive as Pac.

As for the Barerra fight, Manny Steward himself has admitted that Hameds preparation for the fight included watching repeat reels of Junior Jones KOing Barerra.

 

So after being ducked by Hamed for years, he turns him down when they offer him a fight with little time to prepare?

Funny how you mention Manny admittng on Hamed's preperation for the Barrera bout, but yet you have nothing to say about Manny admitting on avoiding Marquez for a long ass time. :yep

 

Determined or not, Hamed caught Barrera with hard shots and didnt even put him down. Thats all Hamed had over Barrera: Power. Barrera was much better at everything else.
