I watched Hamed vs Barrera again earlier this week and tried to produce a fair scorecard. The Prince had a recent interview on UK TV where he stated that he was 2 and a half stone over the limit when he accepted the fight and had to drain himself by working out relentlessly in a steam room in the weeks and days leading up to the fight. He said it was amazing that he was able to go 12 rounds considering the amount of energy he had sapped trying to make weight.

But anyway I tried to score the fight as fairly as I could. Some of the rounds were very close and I decided to score some of them even. There were rounds where Hamed landed some good punches but also got hit with good punches, and those I usually gave as 10-10 rounds. (where both fighters were landing if that makes sense)

    Hamed Barrera

    9 10
    10 10
    10 9
    9 10
    10 10
    9 10
    10 10
    9 10
    9 10
    10 9
    9 10
    9 9 (-1 point taken from Barrera)

    113 117

Barrera clearly won the fight, but I thought it was still a very entertaining fight. It's too bad Hamed wasn't in better shape, because I think it could have been a classic with an in-shape Prince.

That said, it wasn't a one sided beatdown. Hamed did fight valiantly and did land some good punches. But he just didn't have the energy to do his usual superhuman stuff like we saw in every other Hamed fight.

The official scores were 116-111, 115-112, and 115-112. Two judges had it closer then I did.

It was a clear win for Barrera but by no means as one sided as some make out, MAB won by about 4 or 5 rounds.

naz had every opportunity in the world to get back in with his daddy and do what he claims he would have done with proper training. he chose to make excuses instead of trying again and face the truth about who he really is. It tells you a lot about his character, the character that showed on his face when barrera started to bully him in the ring. it was the face of a victim who was used to doing the bullying.

I suspect Barrera might have knocked Hamed out at super bantam.

But anyway, one of my favourite fights and my alltime #2 won,but as has been said,it wasn't the shut out some seem to remember.

I'm very biased towards Barrera but it was still a 116-112 for me.Not quite how some seem to remember it.

People make this fight and JCC-Whitaker more one sided than they actually were

Interesting. So we had the exact same point difference. You had 116-112 and I had 117-113. I couldn't decide on some of those rounds, but I tried to balance it out as best I could with 10-10 rounds.

There were a lot of peculiarities to this fight, you know. For one, Manny Steward was not giving the Prince much confidence. After 4 rounds, he said to Naz that he's losing on points. It didn't seem like Naz and Steward were compatible. But, that could have had a lot to do with Naz's conditioning going into the fight, where he was completely sapped of energy. Naz did win the 10th round, but then lost the 11th and 12th because he couldn't keep that momentum going. He simply didn't have his usual energy. I think it is very difficult for Hamed to talk about this fight because he planned on finishing boxing undefeated. In the post fight interview, he seem to handle it pretty well. That whole fight had a very religious tone to it, maybe because of the weight drain. What do you think?

I think I had it 114-113 for Barrera, but Barrera won either 3 or 4 rounds clearly, and the rest were very close. Scoring the 12 rounds as a whole, Barrera clearly won.

Barrera by 3 or 4, people like to make it out to be a "schooling" and much wider than what it was, when it wasn't.

We all saw how Naz prepared for that fight, think the fight would have been a little different had his head been screwed on in the lead up.

Shadow,I think it was a conditioning issue, because he never looked 2 stone over to me in that documentary.
I don't think Manny was ready for someone who punched their own timecard when they wanted.
All this "lost his hunger" stuff seems a bit of a reach for me by some.
I have no doubt that he'd have fought on had he won that fight.
And if he was really troubled,he should've forgot about all that **** with the entrance and just got down to business.

That interview seems to have convinced some people that Naz really doesn't lie.

Lots of boxing "fans" on here who are actually racial fanboys and evaluate fights based off of youtube videos. Unfortunately this fight is swallowed up by this phenomenon where someone who doesn't have a clue, never watched it live thinks it was a 1 sided beat down cause they maybe have seen a 30 second youtube clip.
