All of which again is completely beside the point! The point I was making was that Barrera's opposition prior to that fight was not better than Hamed's, in response to someone who stated that it was. That is all. It's nice that you seem determined to have an argument which doesn't exist, but there you go... In response to the points you did make, I am no fan of Hamed, I think he is a tosser to be honest, but calling the #3 fighter in the world at the time with a 49-1-2 record a stiff is borderline ridiculous. Plus, rather than just looking at Boxrec for the fighters a guy fought, I judge their performances. For me, there was a very obvious difference between the attentive, dedicated Hamed who used boxing skills in the early-mid days of his career and the arrogant prat who totally ignored his trainer in the corner against McCullough and spent most of every fight looking for one big knockout punch. Plus, Barrera certainly looked vulnerable getting stood on his head by a stiff like Junior Jones. Anyway that's just my view and I don't care about Hamed enough to get into a big debate on it. Peace :good
This post sums it up for me.Hamed imo would've been a far difficult proposition for barrera if he had'nt believed his own bull****.The build up was naz posing and looking shite in training/sparring and then there was barrera.Quietly going about his business, training, no flash ****.
Marco Antonio Barrera had fought better opposition on a more consistent basis than Hamed had. He fought Morales, Mckinney, and Junior Jones - all better fighters than Bungu, Kelley and Sanchez. In any event, if you read my initial comment I was not even saying that Marco fought better opposition - I stated that he looked substantially more competent when he stepped up in class. He vindicated himself in the Jones rematch without being knocked down, he arguably beat the best 122lb fighter on the planet, and was putting on Boxing clinic against Salud, a fighter very comparable to Augie Sanchez. Hamed fought better opposition when he moved over to the USA, and was either getting knocked down and tagged at every turn. He looked better prior to moving over to the U.S because he was not fighting great opposition. Kevin Kelley lived off a win over Gainer, a fighter himself who proved to have a glass jaw and limited ability in the long run. To add insult to injury, he would later be defeated by Gainer, and was stopped everytime he stepped up in class. Difference being neither Barrera or Morales were getting repeatidly tagged or knocked down in the process of stopping Kelley. Barrera was not the same fighter he was when he was stopped by Jones, and the Morales and Salud fights alone were indicative of that. Bit too late for that. :good
There's no doubt hamed is arguably the most entertaining boxer of all time...in my view... It may be that that makes it difficult to understand how the dude isn't an ATG especially considering the potential...but ultimately it is his fault...I honestly believe he could've been...but as it happens no one could argue he really is n atg....people can argue he could've been one...but he isn't...it's a shame...
