Yeah this is totally right.

Suprised didn't lose sooner, was the beginning of the end when he left Brendan. He had a far to exposed style to be cutting corners. If only he put in the effort... You could see it in his come back fight, getting booed by his own fans in London Vs someone he should of destroyed, no motivation at all at that point.

Amazing fighter who had the ability to beat them all. Just had stopped wanting it for years, probably the fame and money didnt help. Was getting paid far more then the rest.

 

Hamed was a very good fighter/entertainer. But he was and still is overrated.barrera gave him a deserved humbling.

 

Pretty certain I was up all night as well as I had to get to a coach to Manchester...in my case it was to see Spurs lose another FA Cup Semi final. Listened to the fight on my phone's radio.

 

Hamed was a Glass Jawed Fighter who had zero Ring IQ and no Plan B in a fight. He also had a lot of hometown fights against mediocre to subpar opposition.

 

Not This. Plenty of good fighters even ATG had crippling hand problems later in their career (Calzaghe, Mayweather, Malignaggi) but they adapted. As said before Hamed simply didn't have the motivation to continue training and failed to adapt to his injuries. He had made a stack load of cash by then and was also getting a lot of disrespect from the public and media, his bizarre behaviour in the build up and during the Barrera fight pointed to mental health problems if anything.

 

I don't even think Bungu was that good a scalp at that stage.

He was getting past it and coming up in weight. From reports he had some poor performances leading into that fight.

It was a very good performance by Hamed mind you.

 

Hamed didn’t start having problems late in his career though. His hands were already deteriorating in 1996 and he had several surgeries to get more life out of his hands, but by 2000 his power hand was completely useless, which is why he was as inactive as he was in his last two years and he just gave it up.

Also, Calzaghe didn’t adapt at all. By the time of the Kessler fight his hands were getting really bad, so two fights later he called it quits.

Mayweather also didn’t adapt to injuries, but instead started using lidocaine to numb the pain in his hands.

Just to put it out there I don’t agree with the video title, since Mayweather undoubtedly is extremely talented, but it’s also undeniable that without Lidocaine Mayweather’s career would’ve been much shorter. The relevant part is at the 2:00 mark.

97-99 would do fine. Beats Marquez, Kos 122 Pac, probably beats Barrera and would be about even money with Morales.

 

Hamed did manage to light up Augie Sanchez and Bungu late in his career. Augie was probably better than he gets credit for, having managed to beat Floyd Mayweather in the ams.

 

No way, Hamed style is tailor made for Marquez and the Pacquiao of the lower divisions was a monster no way Hamed survives

 

Marquez back then wasn't nearly as good. He managed to lose close and get dropped by Norwood who was the only southpaw back then who I remember him fighting.

Pac wasn't even at 122 until 2000 so I doubt he'd move up and beat Hamed back when he was one handed and moved in straight lines.

 

I'm pretty sure it was United vs Newcastle that I was going to see. My Dad knew a guy with a season ticket so he took my mate and I to a lot of United games back then. I haven't been much in recent years.

I thought it was diappointing how it all ended up for Prince Naseem. Barrera went from strength to strength and had amazing trilogy with Morales etc. Yeah, prince was outclassed but I thought he could come back. Instead, we got one more lousy fight and that was it.

 

Sunday 8th April 2001....Old Trafford, FA Cup Semi Final Spurs vs Arsenal. Spurs lost 2-1 (after being 1-0 up). It was bad enough losing, but we had to come back the same way as the Arsenal fans - and it took about 8hrs to get back to London as the motorway was reduced to 1 lane for miles!
