Jessel Mark Araula Magsayo vs. Ery Subiyasno, 8 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Subiyasno aka "Erick Deztroyer" is a tougher opponent than his 12-4-1 record - or Indonesian nationality - would suggest. Ought to be a stiff test for Magsayo.

 

Holy shit is this Michael Schiavello commentating??!! On boxing? I can't remember the last time I heard The Voice calling our sport, instead of MMA, kickboxing or pro wrestling..

 

Round 1

Magsayo looks to be in beast mode from the opening bell, knocking Subiyasno onto the backfoot with stiff jabs between his thumbs, splitting the high guard, and vicious single/double/triple left hooks downstairs while plowing forward. Subiyasno is doing all he can to stay on his feet, letting out a trickle of light backfoot counter jabs, keeping his earmuffs clamped on, nearly tripping over himself in his panicked haste, stumbling in reverse. Magsayo with lightning quick 1-2 combos up top and those hooks in multiple spanking the rib cage. Stiff jab by Magsayo hurts Subiyasno at the bell.

10-9 Magsayo, almost 10-8

 

Round 2

Subiyasno is looking to stem the Pinoy's offensive tide, meeting him in the middle of the ring and popping a jab in the face, then flopping in against him with a hook on the belly. Magsayo takes control with his ramrod jab, curling his upper body forward and loading up on more big left hooks downstairs, coming almost off his toes as he delivers them. Subiyasno is starting to plant his feet and counter in spurts with two-pieces, mostly headhunting but a few combos split head to body.

10-9 Magsayo, closer but still very clear

Round 3

Subiyasno is getting a little bolder, retreating a bit more slowly as he looks to drop in his own shots. Magsayo is throwing giant looping rights behind a left hook lead sliding forward. Subiyasno hurt by a wrecking ball left into the gut. Subiyasno is abruptly squatting in place and trying some poking jabs on the belt line, and then scurrying away once more in a wide lateral sweep as Magsayo juggernauts his way in leading with power shots.

Round 4

Subiyasno is actually having by far his best round in the first minute, as Magsayo appears to be taking a little time off to recover from punching himself out in the previous frame. Subiyasno is dancing around, zigzagging at medium pace, no rushed or wasted movements, just staying on the go and feeding jabs into the head of Magsayo. All of a sudden Magsayo bursts to life with a series of hard whacks high and low, and Subiyasno is backed into a corner. Huge left hook on the body, and Subiyasno falls to a seated position against the padded turnbuckle. He rides the full count of ten, sitting.

KO4!!!!

Hamzah bin Mohamed Farouk vs. Paiboon Lorkham, 10 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Lorkham aka Maxsaisai Sithsaithong, who is 40- years old with a 19-11 (8) record, is coming off a challenge for the vacant OPBF super featherweight Silver title, losing by KO against Takuya Watanabe.

Farouk, a tall & shredded native Singaporean with a perfect 7-0 (5) record is making the first defense of his WBC Asian Boxing Council super featherweight Continental title.

 

Round 1

Farouk is laying his long jab on the much shorter Lorkham, keeping him ducking & covering at range as they circle each other and take one another's measure with a cruising, lackadaisical pace in the first ninety seconds. Lorkham is leaping in with overhand lefts from a low slouch, looking to ambush Farouk. The action intensifies as Farouk begins to rip left hooks into Lorkham's right temple and catch him on the face with a sharp 1-2. Some nice exchanges before the bell.

Round 2

Lorkham is keeping his right arm held low on his front hip, shuffling away, chin left stuck up and unprotected, baiting Farouk so he can sling up a wildly thrown but carefully timed counter overhand. Farouk is placing the jab well from outside, working it like a scalpel, making incisions on the bridge of Lorkham's nose. Farouk starting out in a ponderous, dreamlike, almost sparring mode and then becoming lucid the more contact he makes, lathering up hurtful combinations that have Lorkham diving in to clinch.
