Farouk vs. Lorkham was so awful I will eagerly relish some women's amateur boxing to wash that icky taste out of my mouth.

 

I just checked Twitter and you're right, he's commentating the One Championships at this moment..

This guy calling the Singapore card is just a dead-on sound-alike then.

 

After this, one more amateur fight and then one more pro:

Abdelelah Karroum vs. Alexandrew David is the actual main event of this card, it turns out...8 rounds @ light middleweight for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council 154lb Silver title.

Which is absolutely ridiculous, IMO, as neither of these local novices has ever fought anybody with a positive record, nor in anything beyond a 6-rounder. Say what you will about Farouk but he did come in with some hardware (and, from the sound of it, a fan base) ...and Magsayo is a prospect with a wealth of high-quality international experience.

 

Whoops, had that backwards...Su was the girl in blue with the height advantage. She also just got robbed, it seems (although I wasn't actively scoring). Wei Tong Yu retains her title despite having appeared to get beat up.

 

Next is a men's amateur title contest: Velco Tan vs. Al-moataz Mustafa Alrgebi, 3 rounds @ 69kg (welterweights)

 

Velco chooses the main theme from the film Grease as his walkout music.

 

Alrgebi dominates the opening round on work-rate. Pretty sharp looking kid, very heavily built up top for this weight class (but chicken-legged), a Libyan currently based in and fighting out of Malaysia.

 

Alrgebi hit with a costly two-point deduction, that'll be a death knell in a three-rounder unless he can score a knockout. I missed what it was for, but there have been some rough collisions and plenty of incidental headbutts...

 

Velco Tan retains his title.

 

Time for the "main event".

 

Abdelelah Karroum vs. Alexandrew Brandon Maximus David, 8 rounds @ light middleweight

 

Round 1

Karroum is jabbing the body and moving his head from side to side, weaving in front of David. Huge barrage of crisp straight punches from David, buzzing Karroum. They settle down and Karroum puts in some nice body work, but David rallies back with some powerful head shots, grinning.

10-9 David , close

 

Karroum began to soundly outbox David in the second, but was ROCKED by a heavy shallow uppercut in the final minute and never recovered. Thought he was going to get stopped there...

20-18 David

 

Pattern seems to be holding steady.... Karroum with the better defense ( a crouching, tottering peek-a-boo) and busier with the jab and body shots...but David loading up every now and then and hurting Karroum with a right-handed shot every half-minute or so..

10-9 David, close

30-27 David

 

They go to war in the fourth and Karroum actually has by far his best round offensively...but still loses close but clear as David got in plenty of bombs that had a visible effect on him.

40-36 ABMD
