Britain competes in far too many sports and although boxing gets more than its share in the amateurs, I’ve never been convinced it would translate to the pro game - other than the odd star whose style suited anyway.

The Olympic elite route is better than a good job, you have to wonder about the hunger it removes. Look at the likes of Okolie and Buatsi resting on their early careers, and Clarke or Whittaker just coasting along for the money now?

 

Team GB are a load of crooks. They blackmail fighters for money once they turn pro with threats of legal actions and bans.

The list is endless Whyte, Charlatan Eubank Jnr, Joshua, Chisora, Callum Smith, Amir Khan, Tony Yarde, Tony Bellew, George Groves, Bully Joe Saunders, Skid Galahad, and Michelle Conlan from Belfast, Ulster, United Kingdom.

Josh Taylor, Tyson Fury and Carl Frampton were genuine World Champions beating the best in the division away from home.

 

That could explain why Big Audley had a poor pro career.

 

It happens all the time in the world of professional boxing. Last week I heard about a professional boxer who was told that if he didn't do what he was told he would never see his wife and children again.

No. My point is that there are many boxing promoters who seem to be nice, but when you talk to boxers, trainers etc. the reality is completely different.

 

That is disgraceful. Surely that should be reported to the board. Even if it’s anonymously.

 

Only after reporting it to the police surely! I would trust the Board with any kind of anonymous information…

They really wanted Josh Taylor to be the poster boy for their Olympic squad in 2016 but when he announced he was turning pro in 2014 they demanded 30k from him for their or they’d stop him getting a pro license.

 

Given this is public money - was there any clause in the elite sports funding to say it was for an Olympic cycle and subject to penalty if not completed?
