If all you have is speed then yes I agree to some extent but if you can combine that with genuine skills then it can turn you from being just very good to great. If one attribute is the most overrated I'd say it's power not speed. The most under rated is good footwork, most don't even know the difference between good and bad footwork. People will see a quick footed fighter or a fighter who's well balanced and assume that's good foot work, but that's isn't the case. Placement, angles and direction of movement is more important than having good balance or fast feet.
I'd rather have less punching power than a Chris Algieri or a Leonard Bundu (is that even possible?) and be slower than Primo Carnera punching underwater than be cursed with a glass jaw. Nothing more repulsive and shameful than a so called man who's packing glass in their whiskers. In fact, I'd spiral into a deep depression if my mandible was forged out of anything less study than iron.
All depends on how the fighter applies it. Speed kills. But look at Andre Dirrell, lightning fast and his career was a massive let down.
Don't forget opposition. He stepped up to Brook and lost a lot of rounds to a damaged and drained fighter.
It's a joke I have to state this every time, but let me start by saying Spence, Loma and Joshua are my 3 favorite active fighters to watch..... Spence is Brook 2.0. I've stated this many times. I don't mean 2.0 in the sense that he's a 'better' version..... He's just the current version. Brook was avoided by all Welters after he beat Porter. The fact he was on the opposite side of the pond to Thurman/Porter/Garcia, allowed him to be avoided year after year, until he had no choice but to take a fight like GGG. He had to take the GGG fight! There were no signs of Khan ever fighting him..... Thurman/Garcia/Porter were always avoiding him..... Brook needed to secure a payday. I still stand by the fact that Prime Brook is better than any version of Spence we have seen to date.... But Spence will still improve. Spence will be able to secure 'big paying' fights on his terms. Which means the constant weight draining should not destroy him, like it did Brook.
You're troll. That was brook at his best that night. If he was drained so was Spence since they're exactly the same size at any time during the year
I can't tell if you are trolling. Brook went up TWO weight classes and got his face caved in by the hardest punching middleweight in the division. Then he drained back down TWO divisions and fought Spence.
Timing beats speed but speed makes timing easier. If you have bigger window to react to/throw punches that's a massive advantage in boxing.
