Then what does that make kambosos and loma then? Since a "scrub" beat him when they couldn't. I guess they must be worse than scrubs then.
No pimp, he beat Haney. and hurt him many times. past prime and alot smaller. Haney = good champ, not p4p. if he goes up, he gets crucified.
Some people I've been talking to are effectively saying Garcia is the smaller version of Wilder. Their point being both have poor fundamentals, yet have that one weapon in their arsenal that can come out of nowhere and win fights. If you have a knock out power shot available then you can always trouble opponents, unless they are extremely careful, disciplined, and set out to nullify this weapon. It appears Haney, despite claiming to have worked on avoiding it during camp, couldn't do it and consequently was buzzed multiple times.
No he didn't look it up. He lost to Haney just like kambosos lost 2x to Haney. Ryan beat Haney loma didn't.
It was a very intersting fight Pimp, and I would like to hear a deep dive analysis from you about how this played out. After round 1, in rounds 2-5, it sure seemed like Haney was having his way with Garcia and was on his way to a dominant UD at that point. But Ryan really set Devin up for that left hook with all that foot work and side to side motion. Keeping Devin out of jabbing range was an important adjustment from Ryan which allowed him to set up his shots which devastated Haney. To his credit though Devin showed tremendous heart to absorb all that punishment and to keep fighting until the final bell. Great fight.
Haney fought dumb imo and listens to his haters about not being aggressive and boring instead of fighting his fight. Lately he's gotten away from being defensively responsible using movement and getting in and out in an attempt to be more exciting. You can't do that if you have a suspect chin especially against a guy with explosive power like Ryan. He should've fought to his strengths boxed and moved and win a decision that's his game. Who cares if they call you boring or a runner because they're not gonna like you anyway nor are they gonna give you any credit when you win. So always fight your fight not the fight people who are mostly haters want you to fight.
Good points, I think that's true but i also think that Ryan deserves credit for using all that footwork to take Devin out of his game. Because lets face it, Ryan choosing to back away and give Haney all that movement is the opposite of making a fight exicting. Ryan was getting booed at the time, and I noticed that that movement seemed to really confuse Devin. It was Haney who was the constant aggressor for much of this match. I also think that Haney didn't keep his guard up enough. He's usually a very defensively responsible fighter. In a rematch he needs to keep his right glove up more protecting against the left hook, and using more upper body movement to roll with the straight rights when they come. I'm not sure how suspect of a chin he has, I think he has a decent chin it's just that he was leaving himself open to too many big shots. He can improve on that in the rematch. He's very capable of outboxing Ryan if he can just avoid getting hit with big shots, and just keep peppering the jab in Ryan's face. Easier said than done, but he's gotta have a more active guard. He did hit Ryan with some good shots himself in the first half of the fight, which caused Ryan to make an adjustment. I think Devin learned his lesson and in the rematch he'll approach it much differently.
and those same dudes who were criticizing him are crucifying him. Why try to get the approval of people who hate you?
They are not the only things needed to be the best but they do help you get far. I would love to know your thoughts when Lennox Lewis got KO’d, Chavez won at the last second or Pacquiao got KO’d. Ryan got beat by a midge who is considered the best by many and when he had all types of weight clauses in his contract.
I feel sorry for newer boxing fans that haven't been around since at least the '90s, because today's version of boxing is quite different than what it used to be. This fight was a perfect example. Garcia is not a scrub by today's standards, but he is without a doubt a scrub by the standards of the 70s 80s and '90s. So is Haney. And this is one of the big problems with boxing today for me as a fan, because almost everyone, even at the top level, can very easily be beaten by almost anyone else in the top 10 because the level of skill today is just that low.
