No offence Billy but he fought for a world title. If thats the best you can say about him then its not really that much mate. "Damning with faint praise" and all that....
thats complete bollox. you realise Laraya has lost to fighters comfortably beaten by the likes of sykes, buckland, foster jnr and walsh???
There I've even changed me avatar to the great Joseph Laryea who unfortunately is actually probably one of the best challengers for the WBO super featherweight title in quite a while..
nobody is taking anything away from Ricky Burns win over Martinez. He was a legit world level fighter ranked no.1 at the time all be it by default as the better fighters had moved up in weight. But his level of opposition since winning the title, and before it in gaining the title shot have been a bit of a joke. and for this reason billy your in no position to slag off another fighter for taking on poor oppo. the guy McAllister is facing is as much below commonwealth level as rickys opponents have been below world level.
Ricky needs to fight someone in the top 15 next before he loses all credibility. Super Featherweight (130lbs) World Championship: (Vacant) 1. Takashi Uchiyama (WBA) 2. Mzonke Fana 3. Takahiro Ao (WBC) 4. Ricky Burns (WBO) 5. Juan Carlos Salgado 6. Jason Litzau 7. Roman Martinez 8. Sergey Gulyakevich 9. Vitali Tajbert 10. Adrian Broner 11. Daniel Ponce De Leon 12. Jorge Solis 13. Agenis Mendez 14. Elroy Perez 15. Luis Cruz IBF title Vacant
theres guys in there like PDL and Jason Litzau that Ricky could beat an get allot of credit for doing so. his mandatory must be next after cookie?
Thing is Burns would probably beat someone like Tajbert who's a limited but well ranked fighter. He's certainly no better than Martinez. But they just don't seem willing to take that risk and it's a big shame
