Wow. Only 70. He was so young when he hit the world stage. Most casuals think his career started in 1979.... and don't realize he already had a Hall of Fame career at lightweight. Feliz cumpleaños!
Happy Birthday Champ. Top 5 ATG, greatest Latino boxer, unstoppable force of nature at LW, gave us the best and most memorable boxing fights/moments win or lose, and one of the most skilled and complete fighters to ever lace them.
The Greatest Lightweight in history, probably would've been the best Jr. Welt in history if he had stopped there and stayed a year or two. At welterweight top 5-11 in history head to head. Only a select few welterweights I would pick over A focused and ready Duran. Only 1 I'd pick convincingly, and it's NOT R.Robinson. ( Though I do believe Robinson would win more times than not) Duran is one of A very select few that can be legitimately called the G.O.A.T . He is the Greatest living legend still alive today. Happy Birthday Roberto Duran !
He is in the upper Hall of heroes. He stands with, SRR, Pep, and Greb. ... That is rare air. A bono fide legend. Happy birthday champ.
Happy Birthday, Champ! Was priviliged to see him train at Larry Holmes' training camp in Easton, PA in 1982. Took some good home movies of him on the heavy and light bags and skipping rope. Shook hands and got his autograph. As he left, his car went past me and he looked at me and waved! Great memories! And a year later I was at Madison Square Garden to see him win another belt from Davey Moore. Have a great one, champ, and many more! God bless!!
