Gotta admit this guy has got a point. Theres no bigger Ali fan in my mind than myself but he wasnt fighting for the fun of it. He had plenty hangers on, children and ex-wives to take care off.

Am i the only person who thinks he called frazier a gorilla solely because they were fighting in manila and it rhymed????

Ali didn't fight for the money ?
That's the first time I've heard that.
Of course, he fought for money AND fame.

    Anyway, back to boxing.

Ali may have lost this fight to the great Joe Frazier, but he showed enormous courage to even see the final bell. He took some major league shots.

He proved his greatness in defeat against Frazier.

One thing I'm sure of : the guy took too many punches.

I'm not sure how the FOTC ever got overshadowed by the Thriller in Manilla. I thought it was twice as good, and twice as brutal.

If any individual does not see Ali fought for MORE THAN JUST MONEY, good day.

If anyone cannot READ AND UNDERSTAND the gist of the above as a birthday tribute to a boxer who changed and transcended sport, gave everything up for his convictions, and has stood the test of time as his time's world's most recognizable man who thought of the little people, good day.

Some get into a lather about Ali's whoring and reprehensible Frazier baiting. Guess what: no man is perfect.

But the record must be set straight:

Ali fought for more than just fame and fortune. He was an athlete with a social conscience and with the courage to act on its promptings.

If you disagree, you're entitled to remain in your poverty. Just stay off the ****ing thread. And good day.

Skillwise the 1st fight was far superior. Both were closer to their prime (well, joe WAS prime. Ali, not so much). By the time Manila came about they were both deteriorated (if thats the word) to the point that they were just about level and the fight became a war of attrition. Either fighter from FOTC stops the other from Manila
