Amazing life and career. Born in Philly 90 years ago today. First world champ was Basilio. Some amazing and crucial decisions and actions with Ali. And wasn't he in Foreman's corner when he re-won the HWC?
I have no personal knowledge of Dundee, but I will give my thoughts. For all of Dundee's fame re everyone from Basilio to Foreman and Leonard, some things with Ali stand out to me as remarkable. Perhaps foremost is the first Liston fight, from what I've seen and read. In particular, when then-Clay was blinded by the Liston liniment treatment. You can see when the next Rd was about to start that Clay wanted to stop the fight and tell the world what was done to him. But Dundee pushed him out to fight. A gutsy move, all the more remarkable because Liston, just before the fight was proclaimed as the biggest, baddest HWC ever. Even Joe Louis on that broadcast with Steve Ellis (IIRC) can be heard to say Liston would have beat him. (Could be hype though.) How could Dundee have known that Ali's reflexes were so extraordinary that even, when so-aflficted, he could avoid being KOed? OTOH, if Clay had suffered a KO and permanent damage, Dundee would have been in trouble! Again showing how gutsy and brilliant a move that was. Indeed, I have read that when Clay was afflcited with the burning eyes, between rds, the NOI people started to accuse Dundee of doing that. Dundee supposedly put some of what was in Clay's eyes or on his face into his own eye, to feel the effects and knew what had been done. Of course, Dundee saved Ali on other occassions such as allegedly cutting Clay's gloves to give him more time in the first Henry Cooper fight.

Here's a rare, good, recent, insightful interview of Dundee: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENDdf30iW_A[/ame] A about 7:00 he gets into what Ali would have done to Tyson. Enjoy.
Here's a great Part II. He reveals the whole ropes/Zaire thing. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRiZj4TwlrU&NR=1[/ame]
that vinnie curto interview is pretty cool, curto was fighting someone and kept getting hit with the same shot, dundee gave him a very simple instruction to dip his knee when the opponent goes to his left and he managed to avoid the punch all night
