The Prince turns 34 today... sadly he is lonnnng retired from boxing. i miss the guy, thanks for all the memories prince!!
He was a talented boxer who I used to enjoy watching at the time but had the childish mentality of a 12 year old. I don't care for Hamed the person whatsoever which, sadly, taints what he was as a boxer for me.
One of the funniest moments ever that I have seen in almost 15 years of covering this sport was at the Hamed-Augie Sanchez weigh-in at Foxwoods Casino. Hamed was walking around the dais and talking to the assembled media and fans and the whole time he was making fun of Sanchez. Nothing outlandish, just ribbing him something cruel. So Hamed gets on the scale, makes weight, gets off the scale, sits down in front of the scale with his feet hanging over the side of the dais. He starts sniffing the air and people are wondering what he's doing. Then he says to a group of fans who are taking his picture (try it with a British accent, its probably funnier), "Does he look scared to you? Does he? I can't see him from here. Does he looked scared? Cuz I smell ****." The whole place, including some on the stage with Sanchez were laughing. He was so matter-of-fact, brash and confident. Every good story needs a bad guy and Prince Naseem Hamed didnt mind being the bad guy. Happy B'Day, Prince Naseem!!! Mike Host, 'Toe2Toe' www.theknockoutnetwork.com This content is protected
One of my least favorite fighters. Good for the sport, though. Maybe my favorite moment is after the bell rings to end the 12th against MAB, and the expression on his face as he walks back to his corner is priceless. Anyway, happy birthday!
Very true, but only 34, so he was only 27 when he lost too barrea. What a dick he could still have had a succesfull career is bottle went.
Very happy birthday Naz! Please comeback - the cruiserweight division is really hot at the moment. Few more fast cars in the garage wouldn't go amiss i'm sure
People have a go at hatton weight **** me. Should have seen Naz's before he went inside a featherweight going upto 15 stone.
One of Manny Steward's worst ever training jobs. He tried to make Hamed more conventional and that's one of the things that the kid always had going for him....he was so unconventional. Mike Host, 'Toe2Toe' www.theknockoutnetwork.com This content is protected
