It's been a year since we last sent him such wishes: Back then it seemed a miracle he was still having birthdays. Here is a recent article that caught up with him and shedding a bit of light on his present condition. https://www.athletesquarterly.com/athletes/you-cant-keep-a-good-man-down/ :verysad I didn't realize he was planning a comeback when he got shot...or that he was exhibiting signs of being punchy even then (exacerbated now by having been in a coma)
Coincidence that I am now watching the Emmanuel Augustus DVD Box set. Augustus is the perfect example of a potentially great boxer whose career is short changed by lack of management and promoter support. Floyd still says that Augustus was one of his toughest fights and I still believe that he won the fight between he and Micky Ward by beating Ward at his own game. Happy birthday Augustus. Best wishes for your full recovery.
So he was living on the streets on and off when he got shot????? That's heart breaking to here. I thought he would have a few quid, not minted, but at least his own house, or even the gym he trained at !
Rough life for such a TV mainstay & fan-fave. Sadly not uncommon. You should look into Rocky Lockridge's story too.
Yeah, sad aint the word. Happened rapidly, hes not retired that long has he ? Imagine that, launching a comeback while living on the street. Enough to bring a tear to your eye....I seen Lockridge knock someone out on youtube that was pushing him about. Lol, people were telling the bully" no no leave it, you don't wanna do that" followed by " I told you" ! Has he a substance abuse problem or anything????? i'm shocked it got that bad that he was on the streets while training !
Damn what sadness his story brings to me.I was ok with him not making the money he should have, even fighting way past his best and sometimes homeless but the shooting incident?Damn tough break. Loved that article. So in his prime he was a weed smoking have gloves will travel mattress only video game playing son of a gun.My type of guy.
