Bottom line is heavies today do not hit any harder than 90’s guys. Myth of modern fighters hitting harder has thus been debunked.

There is no real difference physically between current HWs and 90s HWs.

Sonny Liston and George Foreman would like to enter the conversation.

this was a bit of a sarcastic thread. We see plenty of threads in the general forum about how heavyweights hit harder than ever before so i wanted to create a thread to ask people which heavyweights today hit harder than prior eras.

You don't see evolution have any effect over a single generation (unless, I suppose, there was some extreme evolutionary pressure).

The differences would be in things like nutrituion, sports technology, ie. the use of science to optimise training.

But all these massive leaps forward are probably offset by equivalent leaps in anti-doping testing. So, whereas all the people in the 90s were likely all juiced to the gills, people like Joshua et al are completely clean (with occassional exceptions, which you all know, because they got busted for doping, obvs)

Why didn't we see this in the ring then. Both Tyson and Lewis knocked opponents out cold with their left hooks and straight rights. I saw a glass jawed Anthony Joshua take a straight right from Wlad and got right back up.

Wlad's left hooks were missing against AJ mostly.

In R5 when it landed a few times it had AJ hurt.

Or Tommy Morrison, Razor Ruddock, Ray Mercer, Povetkin all have/had crunching left hooks that would more than match any left hook thrown by todays active HW's with Dillian Whyte arguably having the most powerful left hook (put the teak tough Chisora to sleep and dropped Parker for the first time).

I watched Sonny Liston Vs Cleveland Williams 1 from the late 1950's the other day and their conditioning would put most of today's HW's conditioning to shame!

Why didn't Lennox knock out a glass-jawed journeyman, who was knocked out 10 times, Levi Billups? Even Chris Byrd dropped him hard, Lewis never hurt him in 10 full rounds.

Wlad had WAY more out cold knockouts than Lennox did. And why are you bringing the fight when Wlad was 41 while Lennox never came close fighting at that age, having his last fight at 37

    This! 100%!

And can you imagine if Wlad just went in there and went full throttle throwing every shot from the other side of the ring with everything he had like wilder did. Lol :D He might have been the biggest most entertaining spectacle in boxing history. Yes he would’ve eventually got caught by a big counter shot but man… it would’ve taken one hell of a tough counter puncher to actually walk through THAT type of firepower to land something :lol: I believe we did see that guy in 2003. But even that Wlad was somewhat measured in his approach.

Guys would’ve been terrified going up against a boxer THAT caliber with that size, reach, hand speed and power going balls to the wall :D Emanuel Steward once said “If Wladimir would just give even 70% of himself and be more aggressive… he’d be the most devastating heavyweight in history with his type of power”

You said Wlad had WAY more cold knockouts than Lennox did. Please, name them. I only recall one time against Eddie Chambers, but that's like knocking out Roy Jones Jr cold. Lennox Lewis had far more devastating stoppages from the right hand, like against Hasim Rachman and Razor Ruddock. Wlad hasn't had a single one punch KO against a top level opponent, and found himself on the canvas and wobbly more often than not. In that regard he was like a lesser version of Lennox Lewis and why Wlad will always be in the shadow of his brother Vitali who had a much better career against better opponents.

On the other hand, Wlad was never knocked out with one shot like Lennox did :p

When it comes to the career and resume, Vitali can't carry Wlad's jockstrap. Wlad's record is from the other stratosphere than Vitali's, who's best wins are Peter and Sanders.
