Really well put, and I agree.

Liston is the more dangerous fighter over the long term, but Ingo could spark you for the count.

It might be a little harder to hit a guy with a clean singular shot if they are terrified and running away. Liston had put the fear of God into so many of his opponents.

I think that Ingo caught Floyd by suprise at least in that first fight. There wasnt that much known about him.

Going into the first floyd fight he was a deserving top contender with a sparkage victory over machen.

I think I like duo's post, ingo has more clean ko power whereas liston has more clubbing blunt force trauma power.

Liston had the heavy shot in both hands that contiues with age. Ingos power was also heavy handed. with less sharpness and clubbing he bowled over richardson pretty good but in his prime with more sharpness ingo might have the edge with that one hand. Liston hurt with each punch though.

Besided packing the 'Toonder', Ingo was a good evaluater of boxing talent.

One of the few who said, before the Sonny Liston vs. Cassius Clay fight in Miami.

Liston packs a big-wallop. But his right hand is slow. It is so slow, that there are
cob-webs on his arm. If Clay can get through the first 3 rounds, he can do it, his speed will be the difference in this fight.

Sonny and Ingo had a tentative agreement to fight in November 1961.

Would have been great if that fight came off.

Then we'd be able to say liston cleaned out his era.

I think taking everything into account liston should win this poll. He has power in both hands and has raw clubbing power.

Even though I think the hammer of thor is the greatest punch either possess, liston wins here.

Sonny and Ingo were supposed to fight in November 1961.

    $250,000 for each fighter.

A hell of a payday at the time, for a non-championship fight.

Ingo was looking to redeem himself after the '2' bad losses to Floyd Patterson.

Sonny was looking to take on the next best challenger, as his management had lost faith in securing a shot at Floyd.

It would have been one interesting fight.

I've always felt Machen would have a good chance in a rematch with Ingo, so did Eddie, I think the result flattered Ingo somewhat , but he never got it despite lobbying fiercely for it. Atrocious refereeing too, what was he waiting for, a death certificate before stopping it?

Rematches from a ko 1 are quite rare.

Floyd got his rematch with sonny because he was the one with the paper championship, two contenders meeting and resulting in ko1 usually sees them go in different directions.

    lufcrazy,,

Floyd got the re-match because of a guaranteed signed contract, that also included promotional rights to Sonny Liston's first defense if he had defeated Patterson.

    It was the MONEY...

Sonny got in trouble with the law on June 12, 1961, in Philadelphia.

The Pennsylvania Boxing Commision immediately pulled his boxing license.

George Katz, Sonny's manager at the time had negotiated a
deal to fight Ingo in Philadelphia or New York, scheduled for September, October or November.

In August 1961, they were still trying to save the fight.

But the promoters pulled out, as too much bad press was following
    Sonny.
